MILL HALL -- Mifflin County football eyed its fifth straight win over Central Mountain to kick off the 2026 season on Friday night and accomplished just that, winning, 28-19.
After a scoreless first quarter, Central's Kole Corman darted into the endzone from two yards out. The PAT was blocked with 11:37 left on the second-stanza clock.
The Huskies (1-0) answered the bell as Noah Wolfkiel found Lucas Hartung for a 13-yard touchdown. And just like that, the Huskies held a 7-6 lead at the 6:56 mark. Later, Jaxon Strohecker found paydirt from three yards out, increasing the Husky lead to 14-6, and at halftime that would be the exact tally.
Then, with 9:52 remaining in the third period, Wolfkiel tossed the rock to Asher Pearce for an 81-yard score. The purple and white possessed a 21-6 advantage at that point.
The Wildcats (0-1) erupted for a 55-yard scamper as Kyle Everett crossed the goal line. Central trimmed the Huskies' lead to 21-13 with 2:20 left in the third.
Mifflin County instantly put their feet on the gas pedal as Landon Bowen flew to the endzone for a 90-yard kick return TD. That score put the Huskies up, 28-13.
Corman made noise once more as he rumbled into the endzone for a two-yard touchdown run, making it Huskies 28, Wildcats 19 with 8:04 left in the fourth period.
Next up, the Huskies head to Shippensburg in Week 2 with kickoff at 7 p.m. Mifflin County is on the road for the first three weeks of the season. Their home opener is Sept. 18 versus Red Land.
Seals storm past Indians, 23-0
SELINSGROVE -- Selinsgrove football blanked Juniata on Friday night, 23-0, to open the new season.
Jett Hollenbach got an interception and Cael Badman found the endzone for the Seals (1-0) for a rushing TD with 1:20 left in the first stanza. After one period, the Seals held a 6-0 lead.
Isaac Thomas ran for a three-yard score to give the Seals a 13-0 lead with eight minutes left in the second period.
Rocco Amato tossed an 11-yard score to Nash Fordyce with 29 ticks left in the first half. Seals held a 20-0 lead at that point.
The game went scoreless in the third period.
Then, Braydon Mack kicked a 33-yard field goal with 4:28 left in the ballgame, making it 23-0 Seals on top.
Next, Juniata (0-1) hosts West Perry for their home opener in Week 2.
