Arizona up next for 15-16s today

BRANSON, Mo. -- Another day, another city, another win for the

Mifflin County Babe Ruth 15-16-year-old All-Stars.

On Saturday, Mifflin County beat Great Britain (England), 5-1. Mifflin County is now 2-0 in pool play and will play Arizona on Monday and Columbia (the country) on Tuesday. After those two games, Mifflin County will go into single elimination play.

On Saturday, the story of the game for Mifflin County was Noah

Bunch, the 15-year-old pitcher. Bunch pitched a complete game as he gave up just five hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck

out six.

"Noah threw a terrific game," said Denny Yetter, the Mifflin County manager, "He moved the ball very well and kept the ball at eye level."

The only run England scored was in the second inning on back

to back hits. Mifflin County scored a single run in the first inning. Colton Aumiller smashed a triple and Liam Shaffer knocked him home with a base hit.

In the second, Mifflin County scored two more runs. Max Trawitz bunted himself on base to lead off the inning. Maverick Smith

followed with a base hit. One out later, Jude Zook collected two

RBIs.

In the third, Mifflin County added two more runs. Shaffer had the only hit in the inning. However, Shaffer was erased on a pick off play at second base.

What helped Mifflin County was a walk, two England errors and a passed ball. Cam Kauffman, who was a courtesy runner, and Haven

Bridge scored the two runs.

After three innings, England changed pitchers and Noah

McCurdy retired the last nine Mifflin County batters.

Defensively, MIfflin County pulled off two more double plays.

In the first inning it was a 6-4-3 twin killing.

Then in the fourth, England had runners on second and third with

one out. A ball was hit to Shaffer in right field. He caught the ball and threw to Zook, the cut off man, who in turn threw a bullet to Luke Shawver, the Mifflin County catcher, who tagged an England

runner trying to score.

It marked the second straight day that Mifflin County had two

double plays. On Friday, Jett Powell had an unassisted double

play at first base. Mifflin County also had a 6-4-3 double play.

Also for the second straight day, Mifflin County's second baseman, Max Trawitz made another great play as he dove for a ball in the sixth inning and threw out a runner to end the inning.

For Yetter it was his 21st All-Star win and he is now tied for seventh place along with Dave Wolfkill.

Starting at /week.
