SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Last year, Huskies QB Chase Hartung proved very efficient with a 9-of-15 night for 117 yards and 3 TDs. His longest pass went to Joel Beamer for 25 yards. His favorite target was WR Landon Haigh with 3 catches for 35 yards. Mifflin County RB Jaxon Strohecker rolled up 11 carries for 55 yards. Hartung and younger brother, Lucas, also had rushing TDs. A 21-0 second quarter put this ballgame out of reach for the Huskies in the opening of Kish Bank Field at Donald M. Chapman III Stadium. It was a successful start to a 6-5 campaign as the Huskies advanced to the District 6-9 subregional.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: Central Mountain hoped to spoil the Huskies' home opener but instead the Wildcat offense was held to 42 yards, especially the running game which managed 25 yards on 15 carries. Central Mountain finished winless at 0-10 and was outscored 407-85. The Wildcats were blanked in their first three games by a combined 119-0 to the Huskies, Bloomsburg (35-0) and Williamsport (42-0) before managing a field goal against Selinsgrove (27-3). Mason Masorti is the top WR at 14.1 yards per game, while Kyle Everett completed 66 of 125 passes for 672 yards, 3 TDs and 6 INTs and ran for 29.8 yards.

SCOUTING THE INDIANS: Juniata QB Jason Condo completed 6 of 10 passes for 67 yards, including a long of 28 yards to WR Jasper Shepps as the Indians cruised past the Seals. Condo is back, but Shepps is gone to Shippensburg, leaving Juniata with some pieces to replace. Three of the seven ball carriers who rolled up 167 yards against Selinsgrove graduated. Isaac Ramirez rushed for 71 yards, including a long of 27 yards, and 2 TDs on 13 carries. Defensively, Ramirez, Bryce Harlon and Jerry Cordova all had tackles for loss. Juniata ended up 6-5 and lost to Bellefonte in the District 6 final.
SCOUTING THE SEALS: Selinsgrove is coming off a disappointing 1-9 campaign, with the lone win coming against Central Mountain. QB Rocco Amato is the Seals top returning passer with 60 of 131 for 610 yards, 2 TDs and 7 INTs. Rusher Bo Rice graduated with his team-best 764 rushing yards and 4 TDs. The returnees combine for 262 yards and no scores. WR Jonathan Neidig is back as the top ball catcher with 27 receptions and 233 yards and 1 TD. Peter Scorsone racked up 242 yards as a KR. The Seals lost all 7 fumbles they coughed up last year.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS: The Hawks rallied to pull out a 22-21 squeaker last year en route to a 2-8 season. TDs by Thomas Johnson and Isaac McFadden helped erase a 21-7 deficit to the Mustangs in the fourth quarter. Hamburg used WRs Alex Soto and Ethan Horvath on sideline routes on the game-winning drive and went for a 2-point attempt when Midd-West jumped offside. McFadden got the call again. Logan Worke recovered a squib-kick and, one victory formation later, it was ballgame. McFadden went 17 of 32 for 238 yards and 1 TD. Soto had 6 catches for 57 and Horvath added 5 for 47.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS: Last year's loss proved particularly deflating to Midd-West, who was looking to go 2-0. The Mustangs didn't win again until their finale. Midd-West's second possession ended with an interception in the end zone for a touchback. Later, Midd-West blocked a Hamburg punt and recovered at the Hawks 5-yard line. On fourth down, Mason Fultz ran into the end zone for the game’s first points. Konnor Kullman’s kick gave the Mustangs a 7-0 lead. Brady Janovich ended a 13-play, 61-yard possession with a 2-yard touchdown run. The drive ate up 6 minutes and 40 seconds of game time. Kullman’s kick put Midd-West up 21-7.
Mount Union (0-0) at Tussey Mountain (0-0)

SCOUTING THE TITANS: Tussey Mountain's defense couldn't find a way to stop Mount Union TB Nasir Collins, who rushed for 165 yards and 2 TDs while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. The Titan offense couldn't fight back as their runners averaged a mere 3.0 yards per carry against a locked-in Mount Union defense. Despite the loss, the Titans got impressive performances from QB Owen Miller, who threw for 153 yards and 2 TDs and ran for a third TD. Miller threw for 959 yards and 10 TDs a year ago. Tussey Mountain, which finished at 7-4, has lost 5 consecutive games in the series.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS: Mount Union was blazing a path to the playoffs until a rash of injuries forced the Trojans to cancel the final few games. The Trojans were 7-1 but struggled in a loss to Claysburg-Kimmel and forfeited to Meyersdale. TB Nasir Collins is back after averaging 181.7 yards and scoring 23 TDs a year ago. The top three ball catchers are also underclassmen with Tyjier Hooper (55.3 yards), Caizon Scott (33.5 yards) and Brayden Richards (15.6 yards). Scott also averaged 24.9 yards rushing and scored 7 TDs. Defensively, Levi Hunsinger averaged13.4 tackles per game and Brayden Richards notched 6 sacks.
