Force on the Field: Walters enters senior campaign with Juniata College soccer

HUNTINGDON -- After going 10-5-7 last season, Juniata College's men's soccer team will hunt for more tally marks in the win column and senior Brant Walters will be along for the journey.
"We just need to play to our identity. We know what our strengths are and what we need to do best each game to give ourselves the best chance to win. We have worked hard to build a community around principles that we think will lead us to reach our highest potential and through this I think we will have a great season," the senior defender said.
Walters added that due to it being his final year with the Eagles, he and his peers want to make their mark.
"You can expect for us to bring everything we got this season. I know for me and the other seniors on this team we plan to leave nothing behind, knowing it is our last chance together on the field," the Mifflintown native noted.
Walters appeared in six games with the Eagles last season and started twice. His college debut on the field came on Aug. 30, 2024 against Pitt.-Greensburg.
Walters addressed the lessons he's learned at Juniata College.
"That you don't need to be on the field or have a band on your arm to make a deep impact on your team and program," Walters said.
How has coaching at the collegiate level impacted Walters' style of play?
"It has opened up my ability to make decisions fast and how to control a game from the start just by our style of play," the former Juniata Indian explained.
If high schoolers are preparing for college sports, they need to keep a few things in mind.
"Play as much as you can. Go out and play any opponent that will let you get experience with the fast pace of play. Also, just get your name out there. The more people you know in the soccer world, the better," Walters added.
The Eagles open their season on Tuesday against St. Vincent.
Who are some of the tougher opponents in the Landmark Conference?
"We know that Catholic and Scranton are strong and that we always give them good games. So, you can expect us to bring everything we got when we face them later this year," Walters said.
