CURVE, Pa. - Altoona knocked two home runs, the 28th time this season they've recorded at least two home runs in a game this season and cruised to a 9-5 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Altoona scored a pair of first inning runs and tagged Erie's starter, Max Alba, for seven runs on ten hits in the win. The Curve scored four times in the third inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead, highlighted by Will Taylor's three-run homer. Taylor is up to ten home runs this season; he is the third Curve batter to hit at least ten home runs; joining Lonnie White Jr. (17) and Titus Dumitru (15).
Jesus Castillo added a solo shot to leadoff the fourth inning and give the Curve a 7-2 lead. Castillo recorded his 17th multi-hit game of the season.
Erie rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to get back into the game at 7-5, however, the Curve scored twice in the home half of the eighth to put away the game. Matt King and Castillo knocked run-scoring hits to make it 9-5.
King notched his second three-hit game of the season as he added two stolen bases and a diving-grab at third base in the third inning. Dumitru, Taylor, King and Murf Gray all had multi-hit performances.
Cristhian Tortosa recorded the win to improve to 3-0 on the season as he retired five of the six batters he saw in a scoreless 1.2 innings of work.
In his 121st career appearance, Aaron Shortridge earned his first career save as he struck out the first four hitters he faced and covered the final two innings of the victory.
The Curve have picked up 35 hits across the first three games of the series to start the week with a 3-0 record.
Altoona continues their series with Erie on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. RHP Dominic Pipkin will start on the mound for the Curve with RHP Kenny Serwa slated to start for Erie.
