MIDDLEBURG -- Every day is a good day to wrestle. At least that's what Midd-West High School head coach Tye Boyer believes, and if anyone has earned the right to say so, it's the man juggling a growing family and a growing program at the same time.

Boyer, now entering his second year at the helm of the Mustangs, didn't slow down even when life delivered its biggest double-leg takedown yet.

Just two days after he and his wife welcomed twin boys, Boyer carved out a few spare minutes to send electronic flyers for the Mustangs' upcoming Sizzlin' Summer Scramble, set for Saturday, Aug. 8. The timing wasn't ideal, but wrestling coaches are used to tight windows and tough scrambles.

When pressed for a comment about Midd-West wrestling's second annual team duals, Boyer politely deferred. Time, already stretched thin with newborns in the hospital, had simply run out.

"I'll have to get back to you on another day though," Boyer replied. "My wife and I are in the hospital right now. We had our twin boys on Friday. I'll be in touch when we get home and settled."

Mom and boys are now home safely, but Boyer's schedule hasn't slowed down. If anything, it's picked up. The Mustangs are preparing to defend the Gridiron Grapple team title they captured last summer, and the second-year coach is determined to keep the momentum rolling.

Last year's championship was a statement for a program that has worked to rebuild depth, sharpen technique and reestablish its identity in the rugged world of Pennsylvania wrestling.

Midd-West didn't just win matches; it wrestled with purpose, showing the kind of grit that has long defined the school's athletic tradition. Going two for two would reinforce that the Mustangs are not only back, but building something sustainable.

This year's Sizzlin' Summer Scramble, held at the Midd-West Middle School at 10 Dock Hill Road, will feature a 10-team maximum field and a modified weight system designed to give incoming eighth- through 12th-graders competitive opportunities before the winter season. Satellite weigh-ins will help teams manage travel, and the event's structure ensures every squad gets meaningful mat time.

The contested weights will be: 85, 95, 105, 114, 121, 128, 135, 142, 150, 158, 165, 175, 190, 215 and heavyweight. The format offers a blend of lighter developmental weights and upper-class brackets that often produce some of the day's most dramatic bouts.

The cost is $500 per team, with five matches guaranteed. Checks should be made payable to MWHS Wrestling and mailed to Leah Smith, 785 Richard Road, Middleburg, PA 17842.

For more information, call (717) 994-0655 or (717) 580-7654.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Concessions will be available all day, giving families and fans a chance to settle in for a full slate of wrestling.

The scramble has quickly become one of the Mustangs' signature offseason events, offering wrestlers a chance to test themselves, coaches an opportunity to evaluate early progress, and the community a midsummer reason to gather.

For Midd-West, it's also a chance to showcase the program's culture -- one built on consistency, toughness, and the belief that wrestling is as much about relationships as results.

And for Boyer, it's another reminder that even in the busiest seasons of life, the sport has a way of keeping people grounded. The Mustangs will arrive on Aug. 8 ready to compete, ready to defend their title and ready to show that every day really is a good day to wrestle.
