WILLIAMSPORT -- Mifflin County manager Denny Yetter was all smiles after Mifflin County's opener at the 15-16-year-old Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Thursday afternoon, in Williamsport.
Mifflin County downed Scranton, 11-1, in a five inning game. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Yetter got to see his offense get 14 hits and he used three of his top pitchers to get some experience on the mound.
"We played a good game today on offense and defense," Yetter said. "It's a good start, but there are some very good teams here, so we have our work cut out for us."
The defending Mid-Atlantic champions, West End, of Williamsport, also won in five innings beating Atlantic Shore, 12-0.
Mifflin County opened the game with two runs in the first inning. Kooper Walters singled and stole second. Colton Aumiller singled, which sent Walters home. Aumiller later scored on a sacrifice fly from Luke Shawver.
Mifflin County took control of the game in the second with four runs. Max Trawitz led off with a single and stole second. Maverick Smith knocked him home with a base hit. Landon Pecht walked and Jude Zook got a base hit, scoring Smith. Aumiller ripped a double to deep right field that scored Pecht. Zook came home on a groundout from Liam Shaffer.
In the third, Mifflin County scored three more runs. Shawver led off with a double and Haven Bridge followed with a single. Trawitz laid down a perfect sucicide squeeze on the right side of the infield that scored Kauffman, who was sent into the game as a courtesy runner. Trawitz and Bridge scored on wild pitches.
Mifflin County wrapped up its scoring in the fourth as Shaffer had a sacrifice fly and Caden McClure had an RBI single.
Aumiller had three hits, including two doubles. Shawver and Trawitz also were multiple hitters with two.
Shaffer got the start on the mound and got the win. He went two innings and gave up one run, one hit, walked one and struck out three. Aumiller worked two innings. He gave up one hit, walked no one and struck out two. Bridge closed out the game in the fifth with one walk and three strikeouts.

Mifflin County's record in opening games of the Mid-Atlantic is now 27-12. Here is the breakdown, 13-year-olds, 9-5; 14-year-olds, 3-3; 13-15-year-olds 12-4; and 15-16-year-olds, 3-0. ...
