OLD BRIDGE, N.J. -- The Mifflin County Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars have a steep hill to climb after its 15-0 loss to Atlantic Shore (Southern New Jersey) on Saturday in the Mid-Atlantic Regionals.
Mifflin County only had four hits in the game that ended after four innings. The game was called due to the 10-run rule.
Mifflin County had the bases loaded in the third as Jaden Tate singled to open the inning. Conner Lucas followed with a base hit. One out later, Cooper Rankin singled to load the bases. But, the next two batters made outs and the inning was over.
Issac Sharp opened the fourth with a double, but he stayed there
as Mifflin County failed to advance.
Atlantic Shore had nine hits against four Mifflin County pitchers, Sharp, Lucas, Rankin and Mason Geissinger. The four pitchers gave up eight walks and hit two batters.
Sharp started, but ran into trouble in the second inning when Atlantic Shore scored six runs on four hits. Mifflin County also committed five errors throughout the game.
“We didn’t hit the ball,” said Mifflin County manager Josh Snook, “Atlantic Shore did hit the ball. We didn’t have any clutch hits. We had too many walks and errors.”
“I thought Isaac (Sharp) pitched well, but we had too many mistakes behind him.”
Mifflin County plays today at 9:30 a.m. and finishes pool play on Tuesday against the host team at 7:30 p.m.
There are only two Pennsylvania teams here: Mifflin County and Broomall-Newtown. Broomall lost its first game to Wayne, N.J., 3-1. There are 10 New Jersey teams in the tournament.
