OLD BRIDGE, NJ -- The Mifflin County Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars got a great pitching performance and also got some timely hitting on Monday.
Mifflin County edged Northern New Jersey (Westfield), 4-3, in the Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament.
Mifflin County will close out pool play today at 7:30 p.m. against the host team, Old Bridge.
The big time pitching effort came from Andrew Toddes. He pitched into the seventh inning. Toddes gave up just five hits, struck out five and walked only two.
Isaac Sharp had to finish the game and he got the last two outs and the save.
“Andrew (Toddes) pitched a great game,” said Josh Snook, the Mifflin County manager, “We had some clutch hitting today. Isaac Sharp had a great day at the plate. I hope that bringing Isaac in at end of the game helps his confidence on the mound.”
The win was a milestone for Snook as it gave him his 10th victory as a
Mifflin County All-Star manager. He is now 10-9 and is the 17th manager in league history to get double-digit wins.
Mifflin County scored three runs in the first inning.
Sharp singled with one out and Toddes brought him home with a double.
One out later, Jacob Hagemeyer had an RBI single. Hagemeyer then scored on a base hit from Jaden Tate.
Mifflin County picked up an insurance run in the fifth. Sharp led off with a triple and he scored on a sacrifice fly from Trey Cline.
Mifflin County finished with six hits and Sharp had half of them with three.
The game was tied 3-3 after five innings.
It was Mifflin County’s 789th win.
