Trojans fall to Panthers, 7-3

MT. UNION — Saegertown dropped Mt. Union during baseball’s PIAA first round on Monday, 7-3.

Saegertown got rolling in the first inning after William Shaffer singled, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the first inning, Mount Union took the lead after Saegertown committed an error, and Levi Hunsinger singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Saegertown took the lead, 4-2, in the top of the third due to singles by Blake Burchill, and Shaffer.

Jamon Ranck started the game for the Trojans on the mound. The pitcher gave up seven hits and five runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking one. Shaffer opened the game for the Panthers. The starter gave up one hit and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three.

Hunsinger provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and helped Mount Union with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.

Saegertown collected 10 hits in the game. Shaffer led Saegertown with three hits in three at-bats. Burchill, Levi Gardner, and Shaffer each drove in two runs for Saegertown. Everett Gardner collected two hits for Saegertown in three at-bats.
