Sunderland pitches McVeytown to fifth-place finish
MCVEYTOWN — McVeytown’s Crosby Sunderland pitched his team to a 14-0 win over Strodes Mills on Friday. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
The win propelled McVeytown into fifth place in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League with a 9-10 record. Burnham finished the year with a 9-11 record and had to forfeit its last four games to Beaver Springs, Reedsville, Belltown and Belleville.
Sunderland went the first four innings, giving up four hits, striking out five and walking one. Bryson Watton closed out the game with one inning of work. He gave up no hits and walked two.
McVeytown didn’t waste any time taking control of the game as it scored five runs in the first inning. The two big hits came from Jett Powell, an RBI double and Dom Attamuro, a two-run single. Strodes Mills walked four, had an error and a wild pitch that scored a run.
McVeytown scored two more runs in the second, six in the third and one in the fourth.
The winners finished with six hits. Easton Stonerook was the only player with multiple hits with two. Landon Pecht and Watton also had singles.
Strodes Mills had four singles from Cathen Kibe, Jackson Briar, Karson Goss and Toby Rapp.
Strodes Mills finished the season at 0-19. Strodes is currently on a 29-game losing streak, which dates back to May 26, 2025, when it beat Belleville, 8-4. It is; however, only the third longest losing streak in league history. Yeagertown lost 32 games in a row from 2015-17 and McVeytown holds the record of 52 games in a row from 2006-09.
