Springs uses long ball to beat Milroy, 17-4

MILROY – In Babe Ruth baseball, home runs are hard to come by. But, on Tuesday night at the Armagh Memorial Field, Beaver Springs hit four of them in a 17-4 win over Milroy.

The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

For Beaver Springs, the win was an important one as it now has a two-game lead over Reedsville in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth pennant race. With four games remaining on the schedule, Beaver Springs is 14-2 and Reedsville is 12-4.

The big hitter for the Springs was Haven Bridge. Bridge hit three homers and drove in six runs. Bridge smacked two of his home runs to right-center field. He hit a three-run homer in the second and a two-run blast in the fourth. Bridge topped off his night with a solo shot to left field.

After Bridge went solo in the fifth, Colton Aumiller followed with another home run. Since May 31, Bridge has been on a power streak as he has hit five home runs in the last eight games.

On Tuesday, Beaver Springs had 14 hits. River Knepp, Dale Davidson and Aumiller each had two hits. Davidson had a double and a triple and knocked in three runs

Milroy had five hits with Cohen Ritchey getting two. The other three hits came from Kooper Walters, Justice Ritchey and Brooks Druckenmiller.

Beaver Springs used three pitchers with Maverick Smith getting the start and the win. Smith pitched into the third and gave up two runs, four hits, walked one and struck out five.

BELLTOWN 13, BELLEVILLE 8

BELLEVILLE — Belltown jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back as it beat Belleville, 15-8. The victory moved Belltown into fifth place.

Luke Shawver sparked the win as he hit a triple and a grand slam. His bases-loaded home run came in the second inning, giving Belltown the 8-0 margin. Shawver finished with three hits. Also getting three hits for Belltown was Teagan Kauffman and he also had a triple.

Colton Leister also was a multiple hitter for the winners with two. Belltown finished with 11 hits.

Tanner Shawver, a rookie, picked up the win as he went the first three innings. Luke Shawver and RJ Link closed out the game for Belltown.

The trio held Belleville to just five hits. Carter Sunderland had two of the five hits for Belleville and Landon Rhodes had a triple.

REEDSVILLE 15, LEWISTOWN 2

LEWISTOWN–Reedsville bounced back from its loss to Belleville on Monday with a 15-2 win over Lewistown. The game was over after five innings due to the 10-run rule. The win kept Reedsville within two games of the league leaders, Beaver Springs.

Jude Zook pitched Reedsville to the win. He went four innings, struck out seven, gave up four hits and walked three. Jackson Tate worked the fifth.

The winners had nine hits. Cam Kauffman and Jamieson Parkes each had two.

Lewistown only had four hits. Jared Sickels had two, while Chris Ritter and Luke Bloom each had one.

MCVEYTOWN 8, BURNHAM 7

MCVEYTOWN–Crosby Sunderland had a walk-off single in the seventh inning, giving McVeytown an 8-7 win over Burnham.

Sunderland had a big night for the winners. He had five RBI’s including a three-run double in the third. McVeytown only scored in two innings, the third (five runs) and the seventh (three runs).

McVeytown had nine hits with Easton Stonerook , Landon Pecht and Sunderland each getting two. Grant Peachey, a rookie, had a double.

Stonerook was the winning pitcher as he worked the last two innings. Pecht was the starter and gave up just three hits in five innings.

Burnham had five hits. Noah Wolfkiel, Cohen Leister and Noah Wray each had singles, while Liam Shaffer had two hits, a double and a triple.
