Reedsville, Springs keep on winning in Babe Ruth

MILROY — During Reedsville’s recent four-game winning streak in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League, it has been getting good pitching. It was no different on Friday night as Reedsville edged Burnham, 6-5.

The win for Reedsville (9-3) kept pace with the league-leading Beaver Springs (9-2), who beat Milroy 13-0.

On Friday, the pitching star was Karter Kangey, who went the first six innings and got the win. He gave up just two runs, struck out three, walked four and gave up six hits.

Burnham got two runs in the first inning and that is all they had until the seventh, when it scored three times. Liam Shaffer had an RBI single in the first and Noah Wray also had an RBI base hit. Chase Benfer had a key double in the middle of the big inning.

Reedsville scored all of its runs early. Jude Zook had an RBI base hit in the first and later came home on a wild pitch. Reedsville added three more runs to its total in the second on three walks, an error and two base hits. Caden McClure and Cam Kauffman each had RBI singles. Kauffman picked up another RBI single in the third.

Burnham made things close with three runs in the seventh. Burnham scored its runs on a balk, an error and an RBI ground out from Wray.

Zook, who came in to finish the game in the seventh, ended the game on two strikeouts. Reedsville finished with seven hits with Kauffman and Zook each getting two. Zook had a double in the fifth.

There were two bright spots for Burnham: Shaffer had three hits, including two doubles and he also made two outstanding catches in center field; the other bright spot came from Brayden Forshey, who Forshey came in relief in the second inning and held Reedsville to one run, giving up four hits, walking four and striking out three.

BEAVER SPRINGS 13, MILROY 0

BEAVER SPRINGS — Beaver Springs maintained its lead with a 13-0 win over Milroy. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Colton Aumiller tossed the shutout. He went the distance and only gave up one hit and faced just 17 men.

Kooper Walters led off the first for Milroy with a base hit, but was picked off first by Aumiller. Aumiller struck out 13 and walked just two.

The Springs had 12 hits. Haven Bridge led the Springs’ attack with three hits. Maverick Smith and Jayden Rivera each had two. Max Trawitz had the winner’s only extra base hit, a double.

BELLTOWN 12, LEWISTOWN 10

BELLTOWN — Belltown won its fourth game in a row with a 12-10 win over Lewistown. Belltown jumped out to an early lead and then held on for the win. Belltown led after four innings, 10-2.

Luke Shawver was the winning pitcher as he went the first four innings. He struck out eight, walked one and gave up three hits. Belltown closed with Jadon Tate and Kale Beaver.

Lewistown had nine hits with four players getting two each, Jared Sickels, Blake Cunningham, Nikos Shoop and Talon Penepacker.

Penepacker had a double and had a three run homer in the fifth that brought Lewistown back to within five runs,10-5. Cunningham also had an outstanding day as the rookie had two doubles.

Belltown had 10 hits with Shawver leading the way with three including two home runs. Shawver had a three run blast in the fourth and a two run homer in the sixth, which proved to be the difference in the game. He drove in six of the 12 Belltown runs.

Beaver and RJ Link each had doubles for Belltown.

The game started with a bit of trivia. Lewistown started the brother duo of Landon Cunningham, the older brother, on the mound and Blake Cunningham, the rookie, behind the plate. Belltown countered with Luke Shawver as the starter on the mound and his younger brother Tanner (a rookie) behind the plate.

BELLEVILLE 36, STRODES MILLS 1

LEWISTOWN — Belleville (7-4) moved into third place with a 36-1 win over Strodes Mills. Belleville pounded out 25 hits in the lopsided victory.

Leading the way for the Big Valley club with four hits was Isaac Sharp. Mason Joyce, Luke Hale, Isaiah Sharp, Gage Geissinger each had three. Carter Sunderland, Reagan Varner, Ethan Rheam and Landon Rhodes added two more hits. Rhodes and Isaiah Sharp had two doubles each and Sunderland and Varner had one each.

Strodes Mills had three hits. Karson Goss had an RBI double along with a single. Brayden Hess also had a base hit for Strodes.
