Reedsville continues to push toward top of Babe Ruth
BURNHAM — There were a lot of things happening in the Burnham-Reedsville Babe Ruth game on Friday night. There were 24 runs, 26 hits, 15 walks and 13 errors, but the most important thing when the dust-cleared was that Reedsville got the win, 15-9.
Reedsville is now 11-3 and one game behind the Mifflin County League leader, Beaver Springs (12-2). Beaver Springs also won on Friday, 11-0, over Lewistown.
The game was tied, 7-7 after four innings. But, in the top of the fifth Reedsville sent 13 men to the plate and scored eight runs. Reedsville had eight hits as it took control of the game.
The rally started with one out. Anderson Bitner and Jaxon Parkes got base hits. Bronn Zook doubled in two runs and then Carter Palm knocked Zook home with another double. Cooper Rankin, a rookie playing in his first game, singled home a run and Cam Kauffman followed with an RBI double. Jude Zook reached on an error, scoring Kauffman with another Reedsville run and Karter Kangy followed with an RBI single and he later scored on another Burnham miscue.
Burnham’s biggest inning came in the second when it scored five runs. Brody Keefer and Blain Rhoades opened with singles and Wyatt Querry walked to load the bases. Noah Wolfkiel reached on an error that scored two runs. One out later, Chase Benfer also reached on an error that scored two runs. Noah Wray then had an RBI single that wrapped the five run inning.
Reedsville had 16 hits with Kauffman leading the way with three including a double and a triple. Kanagy, Bronn Zook, Rankin, Carter Palm and Jamieson Parkes each had two hits.
Burnham had 10 hits with four players, getting two each, Wolfkiel, Wray, Keefer and Rhoades. Wray had a double in the first inning and Benfer smacked a two run homer in
the sixth making it a 15-9 score.
Reedsville’s Jude Zook was the middle reliever and he got the win. Bitner had two plus scoreless innings for Reedsville to close out the game. Benfer came in late for Burnham and also had two scoreless innings. Burnham turned two double plays on defense.
Reedsville has now won six games in a row.
BEAVER SPRINGS 11, LEWISTOWN 0
BEAVER SPRINGS — Beaver Springs’ Haven Bridge batted and pitched the Springs to an 11-0 win over Lewistown. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Bridge went the distance as he struck out 13, walked one and gave up one hit. Lewistown’s only hit came from Wyatt Fultz, a single in the fourth.
Bridge also ended the game as he hit a two run homer in the bottom of the fifth to give the Springs a 10-run margin (11-0) and the win.
The Springs had seven hits with three of them, including the Bridge home run, going for extra bases. Max Trawitz had a triple and River Knepp added a double.
BELLTOWN 8, MILROY 7
MILROY — Belltown scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to edge Milroy, 8-7. Belltown (7-7) has been one of the hottest teams in the league winning five of its last six games.
In the eighth inning, Belltown’s RJ Link reached on an error and scored on a ground ball by Colton Leister.
Milroy was ahead 7-0 going into the top of the sixth, but Belltown fought back with four runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh. Milroy’s Justice Ritchey had a no-hitter for five innings. Link got the win in relief for Belltown as he pitched the eighth inning. Kale Beaver was the starter for Belltown and he went into the fifth and then Tanner Shawver, a rookie, took over until the eighth.
Belltown had seven hits with Shawver and Link each getting two. Milroy had 11 hits as Kooper Walters had a big night with four including a triple. Chase Krepps was also had two hits for Milroy.
