Port Royal hosts Blue Collar Classic
By Brad Strawser
PORT ROYAL — Port Royal Speedway is set to offer fans a combination of affordability, appreciation, and high-stakes racing this Saturday, with the Blue Collar Classic featuring the Penns Valley Meat Market PA Sprint Series Keystone RaceSaver Challenge presented by River Valley Builders.
In keeping with the spirit of the Blue Collar Classic, speedway officials have implemented “Blue Collar pricing for the Blue Collar Classic,” reducing general admission to just $10 and student admission (ages 13-17) to only $5. Children ages 12 and under will be admitted free.
The evening’s headline attraction will be the annual Keystone RaceSaver Challenge, one of the premier events on the PA Sprint Series schedule. The event has earned a reputation for attracting top tier talent across the 305 sprint car landscape to compete at The Speed Palace.
Unlike a traditional race purse, the winner’s payout increases based on where the driver starts in the A-Main feature. A driver winning from the front row would earn $900, while competitors who race forward from deeper in the field can earn progressively larger payouts. A driver charging from the sixth row to victory lane could collect the event’s maximum winner’s share of $2,500.
The format rewards passing and creates additional excitement for fans, as drivers balance strategy and aggression in pursuit of one of the most coveted victories of the season.
Adding another layer of intrigue is the event’s distinctive redraw procedure. Drivers qualifying for the redraw will have the opportunity to strategically select their starting positions. Depending on the redraw number they pull, competitors may either keep that position or choose any starting spot behind it, creating a unique strategic element to the event that we haven’t seen in years previous.
Joining the 305 Sprint Cars on the racing program will be the River Rock Campground & RV Park Limited Late Models and the Wingless Sportsman, creating a three-division program packed with action from start to finish.
Saturday’s event will also serve as Military Appreciation Night. All active-duty military personnel and veterans will receive free general admission with proper identification. Veterans will additionally receive complimentary hot dogs and chips courtesy of Packer’s Concessions and Port Royal Speedway Ministries.
“The Blue Collar Classic has always been about celebrating the hardworking men and women who make our communities run,” said Port Royal Speedway promoter Steve O’Neal. “This year, we wanted the ticket prices to reflect that spirit by offering blue-collar pricing for the Blue Collar Classic, making it easier for families to enjoy a night at The Speed Palace.”
General admission is $10, student admission (ages 13-17) is $5, children ages 12 and under are free, and pit admission is $35.
Event times for Saturday, June 27 are:
Pits open at 4 p.m.
Gates open at 5 p.m.
Hot Laps to begin at 6 p.m.
Racing begins at 7 p.m.
Fans can enjoy a full night of racing, Military Appreciation Night activities, and a unique twist on the Keystone RaceSaver Challenge that they haven’t experienced in years past.
