Zook fuels Reedsville in Babe Ruth win

MILROY – It was a game to remember for Reedsville’s Jude Zook. Zook was the winning pitcher Friday night against Milroy in a 2-1 victory. And he also had the winning hit in the bottom of the seventh.

The victory gave Reedsville a 4-1 start in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth season.

Reedsville used three pitchers in the game. Caden McClure started and went three innings and was followed by Jamieson Parkes and then Zook.

The trio struck out 11 and only gave up two hits. Milroy also got an outstanding pitching performance from Chase Krepps. The Milroy hurler went the distance giving up three hits, striking out eight and walking only one.

Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, McClure reached on an error, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Zook’s second hit of the game.

Cam Kauffman had Reedsville’s other base hit. Milroy got hits from Cohen Richey and Mason Baumgardner.

BEAVER SPRINGS 12, BELLTOWN 0

BEAVER SPRINGS–Beaver Springs’ Colton Aumiller and Max Trawitz combined for a three-hitter as Springs beat Belltown, 12-0. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Aumiller picked up the win with three innings of work. He gave up one hit, struck out six and walked two. Trawitz closed out the shutout with three strikeouts, a walk and gave up two hits.

Aumiller also had a big day with the bat for the winners. He had three hits including two triples and drove in five runs. Beaver Springs finished with eight hits.

Belltown’s three hits came from RJ Link. Teagan Kauffman and Tanner Shawver.

BELLEVILLE 14, LEWISTOWN 7

LEWISTOWN–Belleville remained undefeated (3-0) with a 14-7 win over Lewistown.

Belleville led 10-7 after five innings and then added to its lead with four runs in the sixth.

Belleville used four pitchers with Mason Joyce getting the win. Joyce worked the first four innings. He gave up three runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked no one.

Belleville had a 13-hit attack and was led by the hot-hitting Levi Anderson, who had three hits including a double. Isaiah Sharp and Joyce were also multiple hitters for Belleville with two. Gage Geissinger had a double for the Big Valley club in the fifth inning.

Lewistown had seven hits. Wyatt Foltz and Jared Sickles each had two for Lewistown.

Talon Penepacker smashed a two-run double in the fifth and Gabe Wilson had a two-base smash in the second.

Monday’s games

BURNHAM 11, BELLEVILLE 0

BURNHAM–The stars were out Monday as Burnham rolled over Belleville, 11-0. The game was over after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Burnham pounded out 12 hits as Liam Shaffer led the way with three. Shaffer had two singles and a two-run homer in the third inning.

Noah Wolfkiel, Chase Benfer, Noah Wray and Kolton Yeater each had two hits. Wray had a double in fourth, but it was Yeater who had the clinching hit, a three-run homer in left field to give Burnham an 11-run margin.

Wray pitched four scoreless innings, picking up the win. He struck out six and walked one and gave up one hit. Cohen Leister finished the game in the fifth. He gave up a double to Mason Joyce and then struck out the sides,

Belleville’s only other hit came from Landon Rhodes.

REEDSVILLE 5, BELLTOWN 2

BELLTOWN – Reedsville used three pitchers in shutting down Belltown, 5-2. Karter Kangy started the game and got the win with three innings of work. Kanagy gave up a run in the first inning. He struck out four, walked four and gave up one hit.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning, but Reedsville scored two in the second to go ahead for good.

Noah Bunch and Bronn Zook finished the game for Reedsville with Zook getting the save.

Reedsville had 11 hits with Jude Zook leading the way with three including two doubles. Caden McClure and Anderson Bitner each had two hits. Kanagy had a double for the winners.

Belltown had three hits with Teagan Kauffman and RJ Link each getting singles and Luke Shawver smashing a double.

LEWISTOWN 8, MILROY 4

MILROY–Lewistown scored five runs early and then hung on for an 8-4 win over Milroy.

Lewistown scored three runs in the first and added two more in the second. Landon Cunniungham was the winning pitcher for Lewistown as he went into the fifth inning. Talon Penepacker closed out the win for Lewistown and picked up the save.

Cunningham had a big day with 11 strikeouts.

The winners had five hits with Penepacker getting two with a double. Wyatt Foltz and the Cunningham brothers each had a hit. Blake, a rookie, had a double.

Milroy scored all of its runs in the fifth as Cohen Ritchey hit a grand slam home run. Milroy had three hits with the other two coming from Kooper Walters and Zyhair Hill.
