Satterlee continues dominating local late models with third flag

SELINSGROVE — Gregg Satterlee continued his domination of local late model racing with this third win of the season Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.

The driver from Indiana, Pa., earned $5,000 for the win. He started on the pole leading all 25 laps. The only feature Satterlee didn’t win at Selinsgrove this year was against the World of Outlaws a few weeks ago.

He’s also controlled things on the other end of Route 35 at Port Royal Speedway, where he has a win and two runner-up finishes ranking second in points. He cruised at Selinsgrove extending his point lead there.

“I got a really good start,” Satterlee said. “I ran the first 10 laps right through the middle, and the car felt good. I started getting loose when he got to traffic and I moved to the bottom. I’ve had a lot of good luck here and we’ve had a really fast car.

Trevor Feathers, the Port Royal point leader, closed on Satterlee as they raced by slower traffic, but never got close enough to make a move.

Satterlee had a four-second lead when the caution flew with two laps to go. He streaked away from Feathers on the restart, still winning by two seconds.

“Nothing’s easy, but when everything clicks, it’s fun to come out here and win races,” Satterlee said. “We have a really good car here and love coming out here. Thanks to the promoters for the big payouts week-to-week.”

Matt Cosner, Rick Eckert and Ross Robinson completed the top five.

Jeff Rine, Hayes Mattern, Andrew Yoder, Deshaun Gingrich and Austin Berry rounded out the top 10.

Mattern, of Beavertown, set quick time in qualifying with a lap of 18.775 over the 26-car field. Lane Snook, Feathers, and Cosner were the top five qualifiers. Mattern, Cosner and Satterlee won the heat races.

Timmy Bitner won the 305 sprint car feature. Mike Alleman, Mike Melair, Doug Dodson and Tyler Schell completed the top five.

D.J. Myers won the 20-lap limited late model feature. Andrew Yoder, Jaxton Garman, George Dixon and Shaun Miller completed the top five.

Christian Bruno won the USAC wingless 360-sprint feature after tracking down and passing Steven Drevicki. Kyle Spence, Ronald Helmick and Kenny Miller III. completed the top five.

Selinsgrove has a busy week ahead. The Kramer Cup featuring the 410 sprints will be held Thursday night, along with the street stocks. The track returns to action Friday night with the limited late models, 305 sprints and USAC East Coast wingless 360 sprints.

RACING RECAP

History was made Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway. Lance Dewease won the Joey Allen Tribute Race earning $8,000. It was his second Grove win of the season and the 118th of his career there,

which leads the win list.

The historic part came when his son, Cole, won the 305 sprint car

feature — the first of his career. It’s the first time a father and

son have won on the same night at the Grove. Both drivers started on the pole and led every lap of the respective features. Chase Dietz, Danny Dietrich, Brent Shearer and Troy Wagaman Jr. followed Lance in the Joey Allen Tribute Race.

In the 305 sprints, Chris Meleason, Mike Melair, Zach Rhodes and Ken Duke Jr. completed the top five.

Five-time Port Royal sprint car champion Logan Wagner won the Western Pennsylvania Speedweek race Saturday night at Sharon Speedway driving the family-owned No. 55.

Chase Dietz won for the fifth time Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway. It was his nation-leading ninth win of the season overall. Freddie Rahmer, Australian racer Ryan Newton, Troy Wagaman Jr. and Cameron Smith completed the top five.

PORT ROYAL RETURNS SATURDAY

Mother Nature has been far from kind to Port Royal Speedway so far this season. Speedway officials, teams and fans are hopeful that June brings nicer weather for Saturday night racing.

The speedway hosts Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speedweek this Saturday, along with the sprint cars. The last sprint car feature completed at Port Royal was May 16 and won by Chase Dietz.

Brock Zearfoss leads the points by 25 over Ryan Smith and 95 over

Lance Dewease. Logan Wagner is 135 behind in fourth, and Dietz is 260 points back.

The late models haven’t raced since May 2 when point leader Trevor

Feathers picked up his second win of the season with a last-corner

pass of Gary Stuhler.

Feathers leads Greg Satterlee by 30 points and Hayes Mattern by 90.

Dylan Yoder is fourth (-95) and Justin Weaver fifth (-105).

Next Saturday, June 13, Port Royal hosts the sprint cars, 305 sprint cars and the limited late models.

One of the track’s most unique events comes up on June 20. It’s the

Eastern Blast as part of the USAC Eastern Storm featuring the USAC

National Sprints, the USAC Silver Crown and the Port Royal 410 sprint

cars. The Blue Collar Classic featuring the 305 sprints and limited late

models is set for June 27. The speedway hosts two races during Sprint Car Speedweek including Wednesday, July 1, and the Greg Hodnett Classic on Saturday, July 4.

Starting at $2.99/week.
