BELLTOWN — McVeytown’s Jett Powell made up for lost time on Wednesday night against Belltown in a Mifflin County Babe Ruth game.

Powell was injured in McVeytown’s opening game of the season on May 14 against Reedsville. He missed the next four games.

But, on Wednesday, he made up for the lost time as he homered twice and hit a double in helping McVeytown to a 9-4 win.

Powell hit a two-run homer in the first stanza, smashed a double in the third, walked in the fourth and then hit a three-run homer in the sixth. He drove in five runs and scored three times.

Easton Stonerook was the winning pitcher. He went six innings. He gave up four runs, gave up three hits, walked three and struck out one. Bryson Watton closed the game with a 1-2-3 seventh.

McVeytown pounded out 16 hits with Powell, Stonerook and Trayven Shaffer each getting three. Dom Attamuro and Easton Zong added two hits each. Shaffer had a big day with the bat as he had two doubles and Landon Pecht also had a two-base smash.

Belltown was limited to three hits. Jadon Tate and Colton Cherry each had singles and Lucas Shaver doubled in the fourth.

McVeytown is now 3-3, while Belltown fell to 2-6.

The win for McVeytown manager Denny Yetter was a milestone one. It was Yetter’s 77th win and moved him into 16th place on the all-time win list for Mifflin County coaches. Yetter is 62-45 at McVeytown and is 15-10 as an All-Star manager. His overall record is 77-55. He passed Belleville’s Buck Metz, who had a 76-19 overall record.
