The Trojans continued their torrid play — eight-straight wins — on Tuesday by blowing out Everett 7-1. That victory enabled Mount Union (17-5) to lay claim to the ICC crown.

Mount Union toyed with Everett early on as the Warriors scored in the top of the first inning to grab a 1-0 lead. That didn’t last long as Mount Union answered with two-spots in the first and second innings and three more in the fifth.

In the first inning, the Trojans’ Nasir Collins singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Levi Hunsinger. Abe Weirich walked and courtesy runner Zach Heane scored on a single on a hard ground ball hit by Ethan Covert.

In the second inning, Mount Union Ryder Chilcote walked to open the rally and Chase Clark singled. After Collins singled to load the bases, Hunsinger smacked a two-run single to left to plate Chilcote and Clark. That made it a 4-1 lead for Mount Union.

In the fifth, the Trojans’ Jamon Ranck was hit by a pitch to start the frame then stole second. He eventually stole third and came around to score on an error.

Mount Union increased the margin to 6-1 when Maddox Hobbs’ sac fly to center plated Hunsinger, who had walked earlier.

Beau Wise’s RBI single on a line drive to center set the final as it scored Ethan Covert, who singled earlier.

Ranck earned the win on the mound, scattering eight hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked three. Wise also pitched a 1-2-3 seventh.

Defensively, Mount Union committed two errors in the game but also turned two double plays.
