Lewistown takes over first place

LEWISTOWN — The Cunningham brothers combined for half of Lewistown’s hits as Lewistown downed McVeytown, 13-3, Tuesday night. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Lewistown is now 6-1 and has a half-game lead over Beaver Springs (5-1) in the race for the top spot in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.

The Cunningham brothers had five of the Lewistown 10 hits. They also scored four runs and knocked in three runs. Landon Cunningham had two hits, while his younger brother Blake (a rookie) had three hits.

The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the third, but Lewistown went ahead to stay with five runs. The Cunningham brothers had RBI singles and Talon Penepackert also got in on the action with a two-run single.

Lewistown wrapped up the game and its scoring with six runs in the fourth. Chris Ritter and Penepacker were also multiple hitters for Lewistown with two.

Landon Cunningham started for Lewistown and pitched into the top of the third. Wyatt Foltz came in relief and got the win. Foltz gave up one run, two hits, no walks and had one strikeout.

McVeytown had three hits, singles from Easton Zong and Crosby Sunderland and a double from Landon Pecht.

BURNHAM 13, STRODES MILLS 1

BURNHAM–Burnham ran its record to 4-1 with a 13-1 win over Strodes Mills. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule. Burnham now has a 4-1 record and is in third place.

Burnham’s Brody Keefer went the distance. He struck out five, walked one and gave up three hits.

Keefer was backed with nine hits. Leadoff hitter Noah Wolfkiel had a big night with two hits, including a solo home run in the third. Chase Benfer also had two hits and Noah Wray had a double.

Strodes had three singles from Evan Hook, Brayden Hess and Karson Goss.

BELLEVILLE 12, MILROY 11

MILROY — Belleville led 12-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, but had to hang on for the victory as Milroy scored six times making it a one run game.

In the seventh, Belleville gave up three hits and five walks. Milroy got key hits from Brooks Druckenmiller, Cohen Ritchey and a two run double from Chase Krepps.

Belleville used three pitchers with Eli Henderson working into the fifth and getting the win. Belleville used Reagan Varner and Isaiah Sharp in relief.

The Big Valley club had 14 hits. Mason Joyce and Landon Rhodes each had three. Henderson and Carter Sunderland also were multiple hitters with two each.

Milroy had nine hits. Krepps, Druckenmiller and Andrew Toddes each had two hits. Toddes also had a double.
