It’s District 6 playoff time for trio of local baseball teams

LEWISTOWN — The District 6 playoffs are set for high school baseball — and it’s pretty much the same as every year. Here’s a glance at what’s in store:

HUSKIES TOP SEED IN 6A

Mifflin County has earned the top seed in the three-team field in Class 6A. The Huskies will meet the winner of No. 2 Altoona-No. 3 State College matchup. The Mountain Lions will host State College at 4 p.m. Thursday. The title tilt is set for Mount Aloysius College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20.

JUNIATA-BELLEFONTE MEET AGAIN

The Juniata Indians, second-seeded in Class 4A, will battle No. 1 Bellefonte for the District 6 crown at Governor’s Park in Altoona at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20. It’s a two-team field.

MOUNT UNION EARNS BYE IN 2A

The top two seeds in Class 2A — Bishop McCort and Mount Union — received byes in the six-team District 6 tournament. McCort will take on the survivor of the No. 4 Bellwood-Antis-No. 5 Moshannon Valley playoff game, which is slated for 4 p.m. Friday at the higher seed’s field.

The Trojans, who come in as the defending district champions, get the winner of the No. 3 Westmont Hilltop-No. 6 United contest. Mount Union’s playoff opener would be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 21. The District 6 finale would be held on Tuesday, May 26, at a site to be determined, officials said.

ROUNDING OUT THE FIELD

Class 5A: The four-team field has top-seed Central Mountain matched up against No. 4 DNE and No. 2 Hollidaysburg and No. 3 Shikellamy. The title game is set for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, at Bald Eagle.

Class 3A: Richland comes in as the top seed and will face either No. 8 West Shamokin or No. 9 Central Cambria. The winner of that bracket gets No. 4 Philipsburg-Osceola or No. 5 Marion Center in the district semifinals. On the other side, No. 3 Huntingdon squares off against No. 6 Tyrone, while No. 2 Bald Eagle Area plays No. 7 Central. The title game will be played Thursday, May 28, at a site to be determined.

Class A: Juniata Valley is the top seed and will play either No. 8 Portage or No. 9 Williamsburg. The winner of that bracket gets No. 4 Saint Joseph’s or No. 5 Homer Center in the semifinals. On the other side, No. 6 Blacklick Valley and No. 11 Purchase Line square off with the winner meeting No. 3 Claysburg-Kimmel. Either No. 7 Conemaugh Valley and No. 10 Ferndale will face No. 2 Northern Cambria.
