Indian hurlers tame Tigers for TVL win

COCOLAMUS — Kalynn Brown and Destiny Yohn combined on a two-hit shutout as the Juniata Indians blanked rival East Juniata 6-0 in Tri-Valley League softball action on Tuesday.

Brown tossed the first four innings, allowing one hit and striking out two and walking three. Yohn got the win after pitching the final three innings, giving up one hit, striking out nine and walking one.

The game was a pitching duel until the sixth as Tigers hurler Madison Snyder had sailed along. She ran into trouble though as Sophia Smith walked and eventually scored on an error.

The Indians (4-15, 3-11 TVL) secured the victory with a five-spot in the seventh. Hope Kehler and Payton Oberlin singled to start the inning. Alexi Deppen and Smith then smacked run-scoring singles to make it a 4-0 game.

Yohn then tripled down the line for another run. Malia Imes pinch ran for her and scored on a single by Julie Martin.

Snyder went seven innings for East Juniata (1-14, 0-13 TVL), surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits, striking out eight and walking one. Kehler and Smith each collected two hits for Juniata. The Indians turned one double play in the game.

Snyder went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead East Juniata in hits.
