Sprint cars were a success

PORT ROYAL — The third race in the new PA Posse Sprint Car Series was a success Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway.

The pits were full with 42 sprint cars. A good crowd was on hand as

well. The racing was entertaining with Ryan Smith getting the win in

the Kreitz Racing 69K after battling Chase Dietz through slower

traffic. It was Smith’s fourth career speedway win, third with Kreitz.

Smith’s first Port Royal win came in 2014 against the World of

Outlaws.

Lance Dewease leads the PA Posse series standings by 8 over Danny

Dietrich and 18 over Chase Dietz.

Seven drivers from the High Limit Racing Series were on hand, along

with a few other invaders from out of the area. The High Limit drivers were getting some final laps in at the speedway before the Bob Weikert

Memorial over Memorial Day weekend. Former track regular and Tuscarora 50 champion Brent Marks was the highest finishing invader in fourth.

With the Posse series racing Saturday at Lincoln Speedway, the 410

sprints will not be racing at Port Royal. Instead, the PA Sprint

Series 305’s join the late models and limited late models.

Two weeks ago, the opening night features for the 305’s and limited

late models were rained out. Those features will be made-up Saturday, along with regular programs for both divisions. In total, five features will be held.

DJ Meyers and Lane Snook share the limited late model feature front

row. Jarrett Cavalet and Braeden Varner share the 305 sprint car front

row.

Snook, of Port Royal, is also racing super late models this season.

He’s been fast, but mechanical issues have hindered him at Port Royal, although he finished second at Selinsgrove last week.

It will be Camera and Autograph Night, allowing fans with general

admission tickets access to the pit area for 45 minutes prior to the

races. The pit gates open at 3, general admission gates at 4 with

racing scheduled for 6.

The Port Royal Speedway Ministries Fan Zone continues to host drawings for different prizes and young race fans can enter to be the Junior Fan of the Night.

With a pair of runner-up finishes, Indiana Pa.’s Greg Satterlee is the

late model point leader. He leads Trevor Feathers and Justin Weaver by 30.

The 410’s return April 25th for the annual Keith Kauffman Classic

paying $15,000 to win. It will be another PA Posse series race. The

USAC East Coast sprints, and wingless super sportsman join the

program.

Three races into the season, Chase Dietz leads the Port Royal point

standings by 10 over Troy Wagaman Jr., 20 over Brock Zearfoss, 40 over Ryan Smith and 70 over Lance Dewease.

Wagaman, of Hanover, the 2025 Williams Grove track champion, has

competed in all three Port Royal features so far with two top five

finishes. Wagaman won last year’s Dream Race and has been fast every trip to Port Royal recently. With the new series, and Speedweek this summer, Wagaman knew he had to get more laps at Port Royal.

Dietz finished the weekend off with a win at BAPS Motor Speedway

Sunday evening. He beat Brady Bacon, Giovanni Scelzi, Danny Dietrich

and Tanner Holmes.

Selinsgrove Speedway is back in action Friday night with the 305

sprints, late models, and street stocks.

Williams Grove hosts the Tommy Hinnershitz Classic for the 410 sprints Friday night. Hinnershitz won the Grove’s first race in 1939 and was one of the best open-wheel drivers of that era.

Starting at $2.99/week.
