Satterlee picks up first late model win this year

SUBHEAD: Heffner edges Cavalet in sprints

PORT ROYAL — Gregg Satterlee dominated the late model feature Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway for his first win at the track this season.

Satterlee, of Indiana, Pa., had two-runner-up finishes to start 2026.

His 25th career speedway win was worth $4,000.

“We’ve had a good car all season so far,” Satterlee said. “We kept

things going tonight. I had a good starting spot, was able to get out

front and control the pace. The lapped traffic slowed me down quite a bit when I got to them. I was a little worried that Trevor (Feathers) was catching me each lap. It all worked out.”

Feathers closed on the leader in traffic, but couldn’t find a way by.

He moved around on the racing surface the final few laps looking for a faster line, but settled for second by 1.127 seconds. Clay Harris, of

Jupiter, Fla., finished third. Hayes Mattern and Dylan Yoder completed the top five. Gene Knaub, Colton Flinner, Levi Yetter, Rick Eckert and Ross Robinson rounded out the top 10.

Mattern set quick time at 17.974. Yoder, Satterlee and Harris won heat races for the 28 cars. Justin Kann the B-main.

Nick Sweigart’s 11th career 305 sprint car win didn’t come without

some controversy after contact with leader Ken Duke Jr. sent him into the fence.

“Everybody’s going to say I wrecked up,” Sweigart said. “I (f*d) up

and got into him. In all honesty, I got underneath him, he missed the

bottom, we had a lapped car there, and I checked up for the lapped car and got back to the throttle, and got into Duke. We were fighting for the same real estate. This is definitely not how I want to win races.”

Duke passed Sweigart for the lead entering turn one with nine laps

left. Duke was blocked by the slower car of Andrew Boyer. Sweigart ducked under Duke in turn one, made contact sending him into

the second turn fence with four to go. He led the final laps winning over rookie second-generation racer Tyler Erdley, Mike Alleman, John Braim and Fred Arnold. Timmy Bitner, Croix Beason, Zach Rhodes, Doug Dodson and yet another second-generation rookie, Cole Dewease, rounded out the top 10.

Heat races for the 31 cars went to Braim, Jason Roush, and Duke.

Braeden Varner won the consolation.

In the 20-lap make-up feature for the 305s from April 4, Watsontown’s

Kenny Heffner passed Jarrett Cavalet on lap four and streaked away. Lance Dewease’s son, Cole, in his rookie season in the 305s,

challenged Cavalet for second as Heffner controlled the race.

However, following a caution with three to go, Cavalet passed Heffner back for the lead. Heffner would get the top spot again for good and go on to the win over Cavalet and Dewease. Sweigart and 20th starting Duke completed the top five. Braim, Dylan Shatzer, Mike Melair, Chris Meleason and Beasom rounded out the top 10.

In the regular 20-lapper for the limited late models, it was

Elliottsburg’s Jaxton Garman winning his first career limited late

model at Port Royal. He started second, led every lap finally beating

his good friend, last year’s track champion, Lane Snook.

“We’ve been working for this one for a while,” an emotional Garman

said. “It feels awesome to get it. I can’t thank my dad enough, and my mom, they put everything into this that they got. I’m so happy to be standing here. It’s amazing. It’s finally nice to beat Lane for once.

It takes a village to do this.”

Myers, Snook, Yoder and George Dixon were in the top five. Meade Hahn, Brad McGinnis, Casey Steinhoff, Eric Irvin and Matt Murphy rounded out the top 10.

Myers and Yoder won heat races.

Port Royal’s Snook led all 20 laps of the make-up feature for the

limited late models from April 4. Myers, Yoder, Ryan Zook and

Steinhoff completed the top five. Garman, Colton Friese, Irvin, Sam

Rial and Matt Murphy rounded out the top 10.

“We were pretty good there, but I think I should have moved up,” Snook said. “I probably could have been tighter but it was good enough to get the job done. DJ missed the bottom and I was able to sneak back by him and take care of my tires the rest of the race.”

PA POSSE SPRINT SERIES

Grove Speedway in the Tommy Hinnershitz Classic. Chase Dietz, Danny Dietrich, Freddie Rahmer and Cameron Smith completed the top five.

Weldon Sterner Memorial. Wagaman, Tyler Ross, Dietrich and Rahmer completed the top five.
