Reedsville, Lewistown open season with wins

LEWISTOWN–Reedsville and Lewistown got off to a good start on Monday as the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League opened its 72nd season.

REEDSVILLE 9, BELLTOWN 2

MILROY–Karter Kanagy and Carter Palm combined for a three-hitter as Reedsville beat Belltown, 9-2, on opening day of the 2026 season.

Kanagy got the win with four innings of work. He struck out six and walked three. Kanagy gave up the only two Belltown runs in the first inning. Palm had three shutout innings with four strikeouts and three walks.

Reedsville pounded out 15 hits. Cam Kauffman just missed hitting for the cycle as he singled, doubled and tripled. Caden McClure had a perfect 4-for-4 night and Jude Zook also was a multiple hitter with three including two doubles.

Belltown had three singles from RJ Link, Luke Shawver and Kale Beaver.

LEWISTOWN 32, STRODES MILLS 4

LEWISTOWN – Lewistown blasted its way to a 32-4 win over Strodes Mills. Everything went right for Lewistown. Not so much for Strodes Mills. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Landon Cunningham and Talon Penepacker combined for a no-hitter. Cunningham was the starter and winner. He went three innings, struck out eight and walked six. Strodes scored all of its runs (four) off of Cunningham in the second.

Penepacker closed out the game with six strikeouts in the final two innings.

Lewistown had 14 hits led by three players with three, Jared Sickels, Penepacker and Nikos Shoop. Blake Cunningham, a rookie, also was a multiple hitter with two.

Penepacker, Chris Ritter, and Landon and Blake Cunningham each had doubles.

Strodes Mills gave up 18 walks and committed 10 errors.
