COCOLAMUS — The East Juniata baseball team couldn’t overcome a five-run deficit in the seventh inning to lose 9-6 to Line Mountain Monday evening.
A close double play ended the game with two runners on and only one out. “Yes, it was always tough,” East Juniata coach Mark Barge said. “It sucks, it really sucks. The boys fought back.”
Line Mountain took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but an RBI walk tied the game 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning. Meyer Ramsey started on the mound for the Tigers, pitching 5 …” innings.
“Meyer was very good,” Barge said. “He kept them at six runs. So, good stuff.”
East Juniata had their opportunities early in the game as well. They had the bases loaded with no outs in the third but had nothing to show for it as three straight batters were sent back to the dugout to keep the game 1-1.
Line Mountain then took the lead in the fourth inning going ahead 3-1. Later though, a two RBI triple from Trent Price gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead in the fifth. The Eagles answered right back with six runs in the sixth.
“The hitting is there, the fielding is there, the pitching is getting better,” Barge said. “They are getting better as the games go.”
It was a tough way to lose for a team that is looking for their first of the season. The Tigers (0-5) will be back in action Wednesday at Upper Dauphin.
