Belleville Christian boys best Bluejays, 68-40
BELLEVILLE — The Belleville Christian School Thunder put nine of 10 players who took the court in the scoring column en route to a 68-40 Allegheny Christian Athletic Association victory over visiting Johnstown Christian, on Saturday, in Belleville.
Landon Rhodes paced the Thunder (8-9, 5-5 ACAA) with a game-high 16 points as he scored seven points in the first quarter. Grant Yoder, who added 12 points, struck for six points in the opening frame as Belleville Christian led 19-11.
The Thunder stretched that margin to 36-26 at the half as Collin Hartzler scored four points and Rhodes, Devin Yoder and Landon Yoder each drilled three-pointers in the second quarter.
A 16-8 run sealed the win in the third quarter as Rhodes scored six points with a pair of treys. Ethan Renno and Grant Yoder each added four points. Dakota Gibbons scored six of his eight points in the final stanza.
Gibbons and Hartzler each finished with eight points, and Devin Yoder added seven points as did Bryson Peachey. Levi DiGuardi led the Bluejays with 14 points and Shea Tyrrell added 13.
The Thunder host Meadowbrook Christian on Tuesday.
Southern Huntingdon rockets past Tigers
THREE SPRINGS — Wrett Smith scored 15 points and Silas Strickhouser added nine points but it wasn’t enough as the visiting East Juniata Tigers suffered a 58-36 non-conference loss to Southern Huntingdon on Saturday.
The Tigers (8-12) trailed 12-7 after the first quarter and 25-15 at the half. East Juniata couldn’t muster enough offense to catch up as the Tigers were down 45-23 after three quarters. Smith posted six points in the first quarter, with a pair of threes. He scored four points in the third and five points in the final stanza, with another trey.
Daniel Lessley led Southern Huntingdon with 16 points and Cohen Snyder added 14 points.
East Juniata hosts Jersey Shore on Wednesday.

Belleville Christian falls to Johnstown
BELLEVILLE — Hailey Zook scored 10 points and Katelyn Renno added seven points but it wasn’t enough as Belleville Christian was edged by Johnstown Christian, 40-32, in an Allegheny Christian Athletic Association game on Saturday, in Belleville.
Zook had four of the Thunder’s 10 first quarter points as Belleville Christian (5-11, 4-4 ACAA) led 10-8 early. Johnstown Christian’s defense held the Thunder to four points in the second quarter – a free throw and bucket by Alayna Peachey and free throw by Renno – to tie the game at 14-14 at intermission.
Belleville Christian regained a 22-21 lead after three quarters, thanks to two points each by Renno, Peachey, Zook and Abby Yoder,. Johnstown Christian exploded in the fourth quarter for an 18-10 run to seal the victory. Dani Coleman had 10 points in the frame and finished with a game-high 12 points for the Bluejays. Teammate Hope Ressler ended up with nine points.
Belleville Christian hosts Meadowbrook Christian on Tuesday.
Mustangs can’t hang with Danville
MIDDLEBURG – Izzy Walter scored 13 points and Emma Wagner added 10 but the Midd-West Mustangs couldn’t keep up with visiting Danville in a 51-26 Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference Division I loss on Saturday.
Walter and Wagner each scored two points in the first quarter as Midd-West (2-15, 0-9 PHAC) trailed 13-4 early. Wagner added five points in the second quarter and Walter three as the Mustangs were down 26-12 at intermission.
In the third quarter, Walter had four points but Midd-West still trailed, 37-20. Walter also had four points to set the final in the fourth.
Cece Coombe powered Danville with 28 points, including nine points in the first quarter and 15 overall during the first half. She was the only Danville player in double figures, although a total of nine players found their way into the scoring column.
INDOOR TRACK
Juniata pair compete at Bucknell Invite
LEWISBURG – Juniata High School standouts Carolyn Heidenreich and Josiah Barner competed in the 400-meter race on Sunday, at the Bucknell University Indoor Track Invitational at Bucknell University. Heidenreich ran an indoor personal-best with a time of 1:06.84 placing 11th out of 35 girls, while Barner also turned in a personal-best 54.64 to place 12th out of 50 boys.
Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said, “I thought Carolyn and Josiah ran very solid races in the 400. They both ran competitively from the gun to the finish. It’s always a good day of racing when you walk away with your best time for the event.”
