LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County wrestling team came out in their Thursday evening Mid-Penn showdown with Cumberland Valley on a mission. The group came out white hot and finished strong late to dominate the Eagles 54-18 in front of their fans and student section in the Dawg Pound.

“Our goal tonight was intensity. We had a couple matches last week that we thought was subpar,” said Mifflin County coach Kirby Martin. “This was a good match to refocus on that important component of just mental toughness.”

The Huskies are still battling for a shot at the District 6 team duals coming into the later part of the season.

Things started with a very short match at 121 pounds.

It took Landon Helm just seconds into the match to take home a tech fall over Mukhammadamin Kakharov. Helm’s notched the 15-0 win in four minutes.

Technical falls were the name of the game for the Huskies early on as they started out with four consecutive to take the early advantage.

After Helm’s quick win, teammate 127-pounder Reece Fisher also gave his team another five points as he got a tech fall. Wyatt Kitzmiller dominated from the first whistle to the last at 20-5 at 4:00.

It was the same at 133 as Bentley Felmlee was also direct and added two to the point total, taking the opening takedown and working Eagle Noah Milligan and keeping his back on the mat for three consecutive back point runs to win 15-0 with four minutes left.

Rounding out all the early technical falls for “the purple and black attack” was 139-pounder Jake Knable who also dominated after an early takedown of Elijah Collins. This one would end as a 17-1 victory in the second at the four-minute mark.

The momentum changed going into the 145-pound weight class as Cumberland Valley was able to pick up some valuable bonus points as it collected three pins in a row. Logan Maurer pinned Paxton Shawver at 3:25.

At 152, Rocco Bushman made it a second consecutive pin as he topped Camden Kauffman at 1:43.

The Eagles would win their final match at 160. Dom Vogel picked up a very late pin over Brian Albert at 5:06.

Brayan Aurand at 172 turned around the momentum, back into the Huskies’ favor as he pinned Andrew Alderman at 4:26.

The pins started piling up for Mifflin County as it added another one to the 189 weight class. Dodger Weaver pinned Jude Shugarts at 1:18 to help extend the lead for the Huskies.

At 215, Reese Christine kept the Huskies’ night going as he pinned Jacob Hartzell at 1:22.

What started out slowly for both wrestlers at 285, it would be MIfflin County’s Dekker Pietzsch that would work down opponent William Barrett to capture the late second period pin at 3:50.

Young 107-pounder Rocky Johnson was able to wear down and eventually pin Eagle Rojan Urwan, 3:52. Johnson had an early takedown and was able to take a 3-1 lead into the second stanza. In the second, it was all Johnson as he was able to pick up a reverse and then work Urwan over to his back before getting the pinfall victory.

Rounding out the scoring at 114 was Mifflin County’s Colten Leister. After an early battle with Cumberland Valley’s Isaac Peiffer, Leister was able to stretch out the leaders in the second and was able to hold onto the 12-3 major decision to end the match at 54-18.

Mifflin County will be back in action as they travel to the Ultimate Warrior Duals this weekend.

Starting at $2.99/week.
