LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County welcomed Mechanicsburg for a primetime matchup between two Mid-Penn foes on Justin Henry Scholarship Night on Thursday. But, the Wildcats roared with a 50-34 victory.
Mechanicsburg (8-4) went on a 13-0 scoring run, blanking the Lady Huskies (7-5) early and silencing the home crowd but the run would come to an end at the 1:09 mark of the first quarter as Mackenzie Peachey would put the first two points up on the board for MC. The Huskies would score again on a two-pointer from Payton Weaver.
Mechanicsburg got early production from Maycee Yanoski as she would start scoring for the Wildcats but then the Cats would get production from their bench.
Huskies coach Crystal Weaver said, “We turned the ball over too much today and our players have to acknowledge that and take accountability and make sure every player does their job.If all five players on the floor can trust that good things will happen, maybe we won’t turn the ball over. We got good shots from Jayda (Kanagy) today. We need to get our shooters open more.”
Mifflin County had the spark they needed on offense coming out of intermission as Jayda Kanagy poured it on, scoring 14 points in the second half and 17 on the night with two triples. The Huskies were plagued by turnovers and got into foul trouble.
Mechanicsburg had strong passing that led them to victory. Asha Pratt led in scoring with 17. The Cats would be too tough to be tamed as Mechanicsburg would cruise to victory.
Mifflin County will be back at it on Tuesday when they travel to take on Milton Hershey.
