Spartans freeze Huskies, 59-45

LEWISTOWN -- The Mifflin County (1-1) girls basketball team welcomed Milton Hershey for a Mid-Penn Keystone showdown on Wednesday night, but the Spartans were victorious, 59-45.
It was all Milton Hershey (3-1) early and often as the Lady Spartans were strong in the paint and took advantage of Mifflin County’s turnovers in a game where lots of points would be scored off of turnovers.
Tatiannah Chandler had a strong showing over the Huskies she would have 14 points which would be a big reason why the Spartans took it to the home squad as Chandler would lead in scoring. Journey Wright of Milton Hershey would also be a key piece to their offense and defense while having a block in the game.
Mifflin County’s turnovers were a tough pill to swallow in the first half as they committed 15 turnovers.
Huskies head coach Crystal Weaver said, "We did not execute offensively tonight. That’s something we will have to work on in practice, just executing offensively. We let Milton Hershey get away with forcing us into turnovers just because we weren’t executing, we weren’t setting screens, we weren’t waiting on screens. We weren’t doing the little things that matter, especially offensively so I think that’s what caused our turnovers tonight and they are a bigger team."
Mifflin County got production from their senior guard Mackenzie Peachey as she led in scoring with 15 points. Payton Weaver and Jayda Kanagy knocked down three pointers late but it would be too late to get past the Spartans. Despite drilling six three-pointers, the Huskies could not figure out Milton Hershey.
Weaver tallied 11 points for the Huskies and teammate Jayda Kanagy added a dozen points.
In JV action, the Huskies beat the Spartans, 38-20. Olivia Bedlyon had 15 points for MC and Madison Peachey added seven.
Mifflin County plays at Red Land on Friday.
