Huskies down Pats in finale
CAMP HILL — Mifflin County took the road trip to Camp Hill to take on Red Land football at West Shore Stadium in primetime on a crisp Friday night.
Red Land entered this game winning their last two contests but the Patriots haven’t beaten the Huskies since 2021.
The Patriots were led by first-year head coach Jaimie Thomas, who played in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts.
Mifflin County had the early advantage on a long productive drive capped off by a five-yard rushing touchdown from Brandon Kauffman to give the Huskies the lead, 7-0, with 8:54 remaining in the first half.
Huskies head coach Shane Breon said, “We have a great group of kids here. Things got away from us there so things didn’t go our way but I’m proud of our kids. We played a strong first half and stumbled in the second half but our kids put up a good fight and we will continue to fight.”
On the first attempt to get on the board the Patriots would attempt a 35-yard field goal off the foot of Elyas Taki, but the kick would go wide and they would come up empty on that possession.
Red Land (7-3, 6-3 Mid-Penn) would eventually get on the board on a one-yard quarterback keeper with four-year starter and senior Quinlin Shearer. He would be credited with the score to knot things up 7-7 with 7:59 to go in the second quarter.
Mifflin County (6-4, 5-4 Mid-Penn) really got the receivers involved and helped spread the ball around as Nevin Farley hauled in a 50-yard score to extend their lead to 13-7. Joel Beamer’s extra point would be blocked by Taki, helping his own cause to keep the Patriots in reach.
Husky Nevin Farley said, “Yeah this builds our confidence and builds the confidence within our team. We have a little win streak going. We are ready to see what we can do in the playoffs and see how far we can make it.”
Mifflin County had a strong showing from their field general Chase Hartung as he connected on passes with Lucas Hartung, Dodger Weaver and Beamer in the 21-15 statement win. Hartung threw two touchdowns with one interception as he would be picked off by Colin McConahey.
Husky QB Chase Hartung said, “We obviously can’t underestimate them. We haven’t seen our next opponent yet. But there’s a chance that we might get to host a playoff game so the environment will be crazy and energetic. I’m looking forward to the postseason. Tonight, we came out firing in the first half. I felt like we could’ve played better in the second half but we held them off and we played great.”
Lucas Hartung would score the third touchdown on a three-yard receiving touchdown. Mifflin County also feasted in the backfield all night with Jayden Smith and Gavin Herrington having sacks and with some key stops by Jaren Kenny and Adan Daubert to stave off the Patriots as Mifflin County would come out on top 21-15
Mifflin County will await their opponent as the Huskies look to build off a strong season in the postseason.
