FROM TUESDAY

BOYS SOCCER

Greencastle stings Mifflin County in OT

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County boys soccer suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Greencastle-Antrim (4-9) on Tuesday evening.

The Blue Devils outshot MC, 8-7. Each team had four corners and six saves.

JV Huskies lost to Antrim, 4-0.

Mifflin County assistant coach Todd Peters said, “The first 30 minutes was a battle. Both teams were finding each other out and there were some end-to-end bursts. With 10 minutes left in the first half, Jace Bagrosky slotted a nice ball to Zach Keller to control and deposit for a 1-0 lead for us going into the half. A high offside trap line became tough for us to conquer in the second half.

“We did a little too much dribbling in the middle when we should have tried some more deliveries over the top with timed runs. They shortened the field and got the tying goal with six minutes left. As we began overtime we had some runs and opportunities but they got a pass slipped behind and a foul was committed to give them a PK to finish with 1:38 left in overtime number one. We acknowledged it does and should sting our boys but we also want them to use this the right way going into their practice tomorrow and their next match Thursday with West Perry. Heartbreaking matches like this are tough, but if our guys know they have given their full 100% effort, we can use it to make us a better team.”

The Huskies (7-7) host West Perry (4-6-1) today at 7 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY

Indians roll on tough course

DUNCANNON — The Juniata boys and girls cross country teams competed at Susquenita on Tuesday. The course is the hardest course the team competes on all season since it’s on a side of a mountain.

The Juniata girls team took wins against Susquenita 93, St. Joseph 62, Upper Dauphin 59, and Newport 80. The Indians only had 34 points. Sophomore Carolyn Heidenreich won the 5k with a time of 25:24. Sophomore Hannah Zeiders placed fourth with a time of 28:46. Freshman Ella Zimmerman came in next for the Indians in sixth place with a time of 29:57. Sophomore Erendira Martinez-Ramirez was 11th with a time of 32:09. Junior Selena Maryall-Marker rounded out the scoring for the Indians with a 12th place finish in a time of 32:47.

Juniata coach Jeff Miller said, “It was nice to have five girls score as a team today since we’ve had several out with injuries. They all got a great workout today on the brutal Susquenita course.”

The Juniata boys cross country team took wins against Upper Dauphin 93 and Newport 98, but fell short of beating Susquenita 30. The Indians ended up with 34 points. Senior Kade Wagner led the Indians with a third-place time of 22:01.

Sophomore Josiah Barner was right behind in fourth place with a time of 22:04. Junior Coy Kerstetter placed eighth with a time of 22:19.37. Sophomore David Mayall-Marker was a fraction of a second back in ninth place with a time of 22:19.72. Junior Joel Hardin rounded out the scoring for the Indians with a 14th place finish in a time of 23:33. Freshman Luke Weiand was 20th with a time of 25:36. Sophomore John Randolph was 25th with a time of 27:46.

“Kade ran great today on the brutal Susquenita course. The boys all got in some good quality hill training today that will help them drop some time when we taper for districts in several weeks,” Miller said.

Juniata travels to St. Joe’s next Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
