LEWISTOWN — The Boiling Springs Bubblers owned Mifflin County’s number last season as they dominated the two-game series with 5-0 and 3-1 victories in the Mid Penn Conference Keystone Division matchups.
But this is a new season and the Huskies seem vastly improved. After going 3-15 a year ago, Mifflin County came into Tuesday night’s contest at Kish Bank Field at Donald M. Chapman III Stadium with a 3-2 record.
The Huskies hung with Boiling Springs for nearly a half but still suffered a 4-0 setback.
Darren Steeler scored a first-half goal with eight minutes to go, off an assist from John Becker, and Mark Becker scored a pair in the second-half to power the Bubblers to the win. Mark Becker’s first goal came at the 35-minute mark.

Evan Lenker also tallied a goal for Boiling Springs with 29 minutes to go, besting Mifflin County goalkeeper Jack Suydam.
With 14 minutes left to play, Mark Becker knocked in the final tally for Boiling Springs.
Mifflin County visits Greencastle-Antrim on Thursday.

MCALISTERVILLE — Juniata Christian School suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Norry Christian, 13-1. With the Lions trailing 3-0 in the first half, Troy Hoover scored his team’s only goal. Juniata Christian was outshot 24-7, with Lions goalie Mitch Auker making seven stops. Juniata Christian hosts Meadowbrook Christian on Friday.

Lions beaten by Norry Christian
MCALISTERVILLE — Julia Lamey tallied Norry Christian’s first goal and teammate Hannah Millet scored a pair of second-half goals for insurance in a 3-0 victory over Juniata Christian on Tuesday.
The Lions, who were outshot 12-2, host Meadowbrook on Friday.

MC boys perfect; girls outraced by CV
REEDSVILLE — The Mifflin County boys cross country team opened its Mid Penn Conference Commonwealth Division season in perfect style with a 15-48 win over Cumberland Valley on Tuesday.
Carter Smith won the race for Mifflin County with a time of 17:10. He was followed by Reese Cubbison, second in 17:26; Max Zajac-Bargas, third in 17:29; Hoyt Rodenbaugh, fourth in 17:32; and Aiden Scavitti, fifth in 17:33.
The Mifflin County girls opened the year with a 23-28 dual meet loss to the Eagles.

Amilia Coffey finished second for Mifflin County with a time of 21:17, with Ava Kratzer right behind her in third in 21:22. Rounding out the scoring were Lizzie Massie, 11th in 24:43; Caroline Palopoli, 12th in 25:36; and Madison Baumgardner, 17th in 27:15.
“Amilia Coffey and Ava Kratzer looked really strong running together up front for the team, taking the second and third spots,” Mifflin County head coach Neil Breneman said. “Lizzy Massie had her first run for the season and defeated last season’s personal best by more than two minutes. I could tell Lizzy was going to have a great day by how she had been running at practice. Caroline Palopoli is moving back on track and has moved closer to her PR from last season.”
The Huskies host Carlisle on Tuesday.

Amspacker finds
cage in Husky loss
LEWISBERRY — Adalyn Amspacker scored the lone goal for the Mifflin County Huskies in a 2-1 loss to host Red Land in Mid Penn Conference Keystone Division action on Tuesday. The Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead scoring a goal during each of the first two quarters. Mifflin County on the scoreboard in the third quarter as Amspacker converted a feed from Jayda Kanagy.
The Huskies kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the cage. Mifflin County’s Aubree Dobson (2) and Allison Renninger (1) each had defensive saves to keep the Patriots off the scoreboard.
The Huskies host Palmyra on Thursday.

EJ spikers fall to Wildcats
COCOLAMUS — East Juniata coaches said the Tigers played their best game of the season to date, but the result was a three-set sweep by visiting Halifax in Tri-Valley League action. East Juniata lost 19-25, 23-25 and 18-25. Libby Hoffman notched eight kills and nine blocks for the Tigers, while Addison Dimm added 18 digs and Kennedy Seigler-Lewis racked up seven digs and eight assists.
East Juniata visits St. Joe’s on Thursday.

Huskies swept by Chambersburg
CHAMBERSBURG — Mifflin County was swept in all five matches as host Chambersburg cruised to a 5-0 Mid Penn Conference win.
In singles action, Mifflin County’s Maddy Clinard lost to Leah Wadel, 4-6, 6-6 (4-7 tiebreaker), Ava Kelly fell to Charlie Kalathas, 1-6, 0-6, and Marcella McKee dropped a 2-6, 0-6 decision. In doubles, Emmah Miller and Delaynie Newlen lost to Gwen Sefeheck, 3-6. 1-6 and Alexis Allen and Gladrielle Leonard were beaten by Nina Kuchar and Issie Slimmer, 3-6, 1-6.
The Huskies visit Red Land on Thursday.
