Macri keeps rolling in Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE –Anthony Macri’s great season continued Sunday night with

a win in the 41st Annual Jim Nace Memorial National Open for the

sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.

Macri, of Dillsburg, earned $15,626 for his fourth win in the race,

and 15th overall win of the season, including a King’s Royal win at

Eldora Speedway in Ohio in July.

Brock Zearfoss led the early stages of the 40-lap feature in front of

a huge crowd. Macri passed Lance Dewease for second as they quickly

started lapping slower cars.

Zearfoss led by a straightaway with 14 laps completed when the yellow

flew for Dewease, who had spun in turn four.

Macri tried a slider on Zearfoss on the restart, but left him just

enough room to stay out front as they raced off turn two.

They raced side-by-side down the frontstretch. Macri made the pass

stick this time entering turn one.

“I had to bide my time and save my tires, and make the move when it

was smart and not do anything dumb,” Macri said.

He tied the late Greg Hodnett with four National Open wins. Fred

Rahmer has the most with seven.

The race was stopped with 20 laps completed and teams were allowed to

refuel and make minor adjustments to the cars.

Macri controlled the restart as Danny Dietrich passed Zearfoss for

second. Zearfoss, Troy Wagaman Jr., Lucas Wolfe and Chase Dietz had a

great race for a top five spot.

Dietrich slowly closed on the leader. Wagaman’s good race came to an

end with a blown right rear tire with 12 to go.

Dietrich tried a pass for the lead on the restart, but Macri was too

fast off the cushion, and went on to the win with Dietrich finishing

second.

Zearfoss, Port Royal Track Champion Justin Whittall and Dietz

completed the top five. Wolfe, Gerard McIntyre Jr., Ashton Torgerson,

JJ Loss and Steve Buckwalter rounded out the top 10.

Kody Lehman set quick time with a lap of 17.266 and earned an extra

$626. Wagaman, Macri and Dietrich won the heat races. Curt Stroup won

the B-main.

Port Royal’s Lane Snook continued his domination of the limited late

model division with another win in the 20-lap feature at Selinsgrove.

He earned $1,526. It was his fourth Selinsgrove win of the season,

and 18th overall. Shaun Miller, Andrew Yoder, Daulton Bigler and Tyson

Mowery completed the top five.

Selinsgrove returns to action Friday with a huge racing program

including twin 20’s for the late models, the National Open for the 360

sprint cars, plus the 305 sprints.

Williams Grove Speedway has the 410 and 358 sprints on Friday night.

BAPS Motor Speedway hosts the Kevin Gobrecht Classic for the 410

sprints on Saturday night.

Starting at $2.99/week.
