Mifflin County 13s to play in Philadelphia

BROOMALL — For the third straight year, the Pennsylvania Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Star tournament will be held in the Philadelphia area.

In 2023, the 13-year-olds played at Kennett Square and then last year the tournament was in Yardley (Pennsbury). This year, it will be played at Broomall from July 12-16. The winner and possibly other teams will advance to Old Bridge, N.J. for the Mid-Atlantic Regionals.

Teams in the tournament are Broomall-Newtown (the host), Drexel Hill, Ridley, Roxborough, West End of Williamsport and Mifflin County.

Mifflin County will open play at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 against Roxborough. The local All-Stars second game will be on Sunday also at 2 p.m. against Ridley. If Mifflin County advances it will play in the final four on Monday, July 14.

The manager of the team is Belleville’s Bill Corbin. Corbin has an overall record of 782-461. Corbin, who is in his 43rd year (as manager), has a Belleville record of 659-406. His All-Star record is 123-55. His 782 wins are the most for any Babe Ruth manager in Pennsylvania.

Corbin guided five Mifflin County 13-year-old All-Star teams to state titles in 1987, 1990, 2003, 2007 and 2019. Corbin also has been a manager of two World Series teams, 2021 and 2022. The 2021 15-year-olds finished second in the country, while the 2022 14-year-olds were tied for fifth in the nation. He also was an assistant coach on the 15-year-old World Series team in 2004 that finished in a tie for seventh place.

Helping Corbin will be Josh Snook and Matt Foltz of Lewistown and Chris Hale of Belleville.

Six players were named to the team from Belleville, Levi Anderson, Gabe Clark, Gage Geissinger, Luke Hale, Kaden Peachey and Levi Sharp. Lewistown had three players named to the team, Wyatt Foltz, Crue Kochenderfer and Zyaire Tshudy.

Reedsville was the only other team with multiple players, Bronn Zook and Carter Palm.

Six teams had just one player on the All-Star team, Strodes Mills, Cam Kiwalczik; McVeytown, Lucas Casner; Milroy, Cohen Ritchey; Burnham, Brody Keefer; Belltown, Benjamin Link and Beaver Springs, Brayden Herbster.

Mifflin County has played twice in Broomall and has a record of 5-2. Mifflin County won the state 15-year-old title there in 2003 as Chad Snook had the winning hit in extra-innings against Drexel Hill.
