Trout wins opening heat race

MECHANICSBURG – Williams Grove Speedway returned to action Friday

night with the 410 sprint cars and the USAC National sprint cars.

A solid field of 30 were in the 410 sprint car pits for the Grove’s

sixth race of the season.

Chad Trout won the opening heat race earning the pole of the 25-lap

feature. Cole Knopp, TJ Stutts, Troy Wagaman Jr., and Alex Attard

completed the top five in the first heat.

Austin Bishop won the second heat race earning the second starting

spot in the feature. Port Royal point leader Justin Whittall, Brock

Zearfoss, Ryan Taylor and Chase Dietz completed the top five in heat

race number two. Australian racer Ryan Newton won the final heat race

and will start third. Ricky Dieva, Derek Hauck, point leader Freddie

Rahmer and Bill Dietrich completed the top five. The heat winners each

earned an extra $50.

Trout started on the pole with Bishop second and Newton third. The

next three starters included Knopp, Whittall and Dieva. The 25-lap

feature pays $5,500 to win.

Anthony Macri has three Williams Grove wins this season, but was

racing with the World of Outlaws in South Dakota on Friday night. The

only other sprint car feature winners this year at the Grove are

Cameron Smith and most recently Lance Dewease. With Smith and Dewease

scheduled to start the B-main, its likely a new 2025 winner with be in

victory lane.

The B-main and two features were yet to be run Friday night.

The Grove kicks off the 35th edition of Pennsylvania Sprint Car

Speedweek next Friday night with a $10,000 to win sprint car feature.

The USAC National Sprint Cars were on hand as well as part of the

annual “Eastern Storm.” Mitchel Moles set quick time with a lap of

19.246. Daison Pursley, Justin Grant and Robert Ballou won the heat

races.

The USAC Eastern Storm continues tonight at Port Royal Speedway

featuring the USAC Sprint cars and the USAC Silver Crown cars, along

with the regular Port Royal 410 sprints. Race time is 7.
