PHILIPSBURG -- After reeling off consecutive victories over Williamsport, Indiana County and Bedford County the past three outings, the Mifflin County Tomahawks hoped to enter the Great Eastern Football League playoffs on a roll by beating their rival -- the Moshannon Valley Vikings -- on Saturday.
Under the lights at Memorial Field in Philipsburg, the Tomahawks will still qualify for the Keystone Bowl playoffs -- they punched their ticket last week by beating Bedford County, but they ended on a sour note. Mifflin County saw its three-game winning streak snapped as it fell 38-29 to the Vikings in the season finale for both clubs.
For the Tomahawks, Rob Albro and Jamal Albro each ran for a touchdown, while Brandon Clark caught two TD passes and Isaiah Edwards also threw for another score. The victory also wrapped up the Mountain Conference championship for Moshannon Valley, which finished the regular season at 8-2. The Tomahawks ended up in second place with a 6-4 record. Two of Mifflin County's four losses came at the hands of the Vikings.
That also means the Tomahawks will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming playoffs and will travel to Valley Conference champion Dauphin County in Linglestown at 1 p.m. Saturday.
"We will be facing the Comanche," Mifflin County head coach Bryan Rodgers said. "Usually a run heavy team but certainly can throw the ball. We have to play mistake free and take any opportunities given to us."
Mountain Conference champion Moshannon Valley will square off against the Central PA Legends.
