MECHANICSBURG - Williams Grove Speedway continues to lose the battle
against Mother Nature this season.
Six of the Grove's eight scheduled races have been rained out. The
races did get started Friday night, but rain hit the track around 8:30
delaying the action, which included a make-up 358 sprint car feature
that was postponed by rain on April 4.
The World of Outlaws sprint cars come to town for the Morgan Cup next
Friday and Saturday night with $20,000 going to the Morgan Cup
Champion.
Dillsburg's Anthony Macri has won the only two features completed at
the Grove this season. He was fast again Friday night before the rain
hit.
Macri had the fastest lap in qualifying time trials at 16.550. He
earned an extra $300 from Fast Tees.
"These guys give me a good car," Macri said. "It makes my job easier.
I just have to not mess it up. With some tweaks and some luck, we
could be standing (in victory lane) at the end of the night."
Lucas Wolfe (16.716), Troy Wagaman Jr. (16.765), Danny Dietrich
(16.775) and Lance Dewease (16.786) were in the top five. Cameron
Smith, Kody Hartlaub, Jake Karklin, Justin Whittall and Jeff Halligan
completed the top 10 in qualifying time trials.
The 358 sprint cars were lining up for their postponed feature when
rain started falling. The rain became heavy and the program was
canceled.
Bad weather has been making it tough on all the local dirt tracks this season.
Port Royal Speedway officials cancelled the racing program scheduled
for tonight due to the forecast of heavy thunderstorms. Lincoln
Speedway also canceled its program for tonight. The Outlaws head to
Lincoln on Tuesday night.
