Record day for EJ’s Nipple, but Tigers swept at quad meet

BELLEFONTE -- Cody Nipple proved to be his own 1-2 punch for the East Juniata Tigers track and field team in a season-opening quad meet with Brookville, Selinsgrove and host Bellefonte on Saturday.

Nipple won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.59 then placed second in the 100 in 11.45 and second in the 200 in 22.78. Both times set new school records as Nipple edged Logan Strawser's 52.14 in the 400 and beat Ross Woodcock's old time in the 23s in the 200.

The 400 time also qualifies Nipple for the PIAA Track and Field Championships.

In the team standings, East Juniata were swept on both the boys and girls' sides. The Tiger boys lost to Selinsgrove by a 108-41 margin, Brookville 110-39 and Bellefonte 81-67.

The East Juniata girls lost to Selinsgrove 125-25, Bellefonte 115-30 and Brookville 111-26. Selinsgrove went a perfect 3-0 in both boys and girls' action.

The Tiger boys' 4×100 relay team ended up fourth in 49.14, while the 4×400 was sixth in 3:59.25 and the 4×800 fourth in 10:39.01.

East Juniata's Cohen Apple placed 12th in the triple jump at 28-7, 13th in the 400 in 1:07.10 and 20th in the long jump at 14-5.5, and Thaddaes Auker was fourth in the javelin at 135-3, fifth in the discus at 110-0 and sixth in the shot put at 37-6.75.

Shay Brininger took third in the shot at 40-10 and sixth in the discus at 109-3, while Bryant Carrasquillo was fourth in the triple jump at 36-2, 22nd in the 100 in 12.76 and 23rd in the javelin at 87-0.

Ayden Dowling finished third in the high jump at 5-6, fourth in the long jump at 18-7.5 and 17th in the javelin at 102-4, and Wesley Ehrisman took sixth in the 1,600 in 5:06.01 and sixth in the 3,200 in 10:34.97.

Chase Fisher placed 26th in both the 100 and 200, with times of 13.53 and 27.72, and Davis Hart was third in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.92, fourth in the 110 hurdles in 16.91 and 10th in the 200 in 24.47.

Seth Hartman took 16th in the 400 in 1:14.74, 30th in the 100 in 15.24 and 33rd in the 200 in 31.66, while Jonah Hess was 19th in the discus in 75-10 and 20th in the shot at 25-4.

Kyler Holcombe earned a seventh in the discus at 103-9, eighth in the javelin at 122-10 and 11th in shot at 33-7.5, and Evan Hubley picked up a ninth in the discus at 100-11, 13th in the javelin in 111-5 and 15th in the shot at 31-1.75.

Chase Kerstetter ended up 11th in the discus at 95-8 and 24th in the shot at 28-7.5, while Jayden McKnight was 22nd in the shot at 29-4, 26th in the discus at 68-10 and 28th in the javelin at 76-7.

Christian Meter ran fourth in the 800 in 2:15.97 and seventh in the 400 at 58.71, while Linus Neumann picked up a 17th in the 400 in 1:24,91 and 33rd in the 100 in 15.59.

Hudson Rickenbaugh took ninth in the 3,200 in 14:44.07 and 15th in the 1,600 in 6:17.37, and Aiden James Rohlf was 14th in the 400 in 1:11.20 and 25th in the 100 in 13.51.

On the girls side for East Juniata, the 4×100 relay team placed fourth in 59.35, the 4×400 was fifth in 4:54.25 and the 4×800 finished fourth in 12:04.58.

Briahna Brubaker brought home an eighth in the 100 hurdles in 21.30 and a 10th in the high jump at 4-0, while Hayden Cook was 15th in discus at 58-10, 17th in the javelin at 57-4 and 24th in the shot at 17-6.5.

Carolyn Dressler captured a seventh in the 400 in 1:16.34, 15th in the 800 in 3:11.77 and 17th in the long jump at 9-9, and Addison Eby was ninth in the shot at 23-9.5 and 14th in the discus at 59-0.

Morgan Ehrisman took 24th in the javelin at 48-5, while Addy Feltman placed second in the 300 hurdles in 53.31, fourth in the 100 hurdles in 19.30 and sixth in the high jump at 4-2 and Anny Fusta was 15th in the long jump at 10-10.5, 16th in the 100 in 16.25 and 17th in the 200 in 34.06.

Lilly Goodling finished with a 21st in the javelin at 50-8, 24th in the discus at 50-10 and 26th in the shot at 17-3, and Drue Hoffman was fifth in the 3,200 in 15:38.44, 11th in the 1,600 in 7:00.67 and 19th in the 800 in 3:17.91.

Natalie Hoffman ended up 10th in the 100 in 15.17 and 12th in the 200 in 32.16, and Naomi Leitzel was second in the discus at 85-4 and sixth in the shot at 26-7.5.

Emma Mattern scored a 15th in the 100 in 16.17 and 16th in the 200 in 33.60, while Makalyn Peters was ninth in the 400 in 1:22.07, 12th in the long jump at 11-8 and 14th in the 800 in 3:10.07.

Addison Phillip took seventh in the 100 hurdles in 20.62 and eighth in the 300 hurdles in 58.96, and Haven Smith was fourth in the 400 in 1:12.42 and 18th in the 800 in 3:16.74.

Kentley Stroup placed 10th in the shot at 23-6.5, 21st in the discus at 53-1 and 23rd in the javelin at 48-7, and Kolby Stroup was 10th in the discus at 65-7 and 18th in the javelin at 56-6.

Hannah Zeiders ran to a fourth in the 3,200 in 13:32.78, seventh in the 1,600 in 6;06.75 and 10th in the 800 in2:55.64, while Rachel Zeiders was eighth in the discus at 68-0, 11th in the shot at 23-5 and 13th in the javelin at 62-3.

Midd-West hosts Danville and East Juniata on Tuesday.

Skopic shines at Igloo meet

ALTOONA - Cailyn Skopic won the 100-meter hurdles and came away with a second in the 300-meter hurdles at the 48th Annual Altoona Igloo Invitational at Mansion Park in Altoona on Saturday. The Mount Union Trojan hurdler.

Skopic, who turned in a time of 16.32 in the preliminary heat of the 100-meter hurdles and 16.50 in the finals, also ran a 49.00 in the 300-meter hurdles. She also finished 10th in the high jump with a 4-10.

She was one of many bright spots for Mount Union, who had Lily House end up 21st in the long jump with a 14-6.25 and 32nd in the 200-meter dash in 29.57.

On the boys side, the Trojan 4×800 relay team placed 18th with a 9:58.85, while Ethan Fisher ran 19th in the 400 in 55.70. Mount Union's Caizon Scott placed in two events, with a 19th in the 200 in 24.37 and 29th in the high jump at 5-2, and Oscar James was 31st in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.97 and Dorian Loner took 40th in the 1,600 in 5:32.50.

Mount Union hosts Tussey Mountain on Tuesday.

Midd-West hosts tri-meet

MIDDLEBURG - Host Midd-West opened the season by hosting Lewisburg and Montoursville and came away with a pair of individual victories on the boys side.

In the 1,600 race, Wyatt Nelson took top honors for the Mustangs in 4:45.21, while Connor Stoltzfus did the same in the 400 in 52.52. Midd-West field several relay teams in the 4×400 and took a second in 3:43.20, third in 3:57.43, fifth in 4:02.38 and seventh in 4:21.68. The 4×800 was second in 8:50.32 and third in 8:54.43.

Midd-West's Ben Delong was 15th in the 800 in 2:30.52, Gabriel Dively placed 16th in the 400 in 1:03.57, 23rd in the 200 in 27.20 and 30th in the 100 in 13.21. D'Angelo Drumheller ran 14th in the 100 in 12.37 and 19th in the 200 in 26.37, and Parker Eppley was sixth in the 400 in 56.24.

Joseph Gabel took seventh in the shot at 31-8.5 and 10th in the discus at 80-0, while Gavin Gelnett earned a sixth in the 800 in 2:18.01. Ian Hall finished fifth in the 400 in 55.81, and Lincoln Hoffman was seventh in the 400 in 56.31 and Samuel Hostler sixth in the javelin at 106-8, eighth in the discus at 83-8.5 and eighth in the shot at 29-3.5.

In the 100, Nic Hummel ran a 12.80 to get 22nd, while Konnor Kullman crossed in ninth in 57.74 and Aiden Parker 13th in 400 in 1:01.58 and 26th in the 200 in 27.48.

Wyatt Portzline was 10th in the 800 in 2:19.91, with Manasseh Prinsloo 12th in the 400 in 1:00.70 and 29th in the 200 in 27.91 and Landon Reid 10th in the 400 in 57.77 and 13th in the 200 in 25.75.

Aiden Rose ended up 14th in the 400 in 1:02.30, with Jacob Sellers eighth in the 400 in 56.83 and Wyatt Sherman 21st in the 800 in 2:38.41 and 22nd in the 1,600 in 5:59.68.

Nathan Straub was 11th in the 100 in 12.17, with Owen Swartz 11th in the 400 in 1:00.52, 24th in the 200 in 27.35 and 25th in the 100 in 13:04, with Gannon Treaster seventh in the javelin at 98-10 and 11th in the shot at 27-8.

Graydon Vanhorn placed third in the shot at 41-0.5 and seventh in the discus at 94-0, while Noah Wagner was 13th in the javelin at 77-10.5 and 14th in the shot at 26-6.5. Jayden White ran 15th in the 400 at 1:03.23 and 30th in the 200 in 28.08, with Zachary Williams 33rd in the 100 in 13.82 and 35th in the 200 in 29.36 and Jasher Wolf sixth in the shot at 36-3.5, fifth in the discus at 101-2.5 and eighth in the javelin at 95-6.

On the girls side, Olivia Stroup ruled the 800, posting a winning time of 2:30.84. The Mustangs' 4×100 relay team was second in 53.47, the 4×400 teams were second in 4:28.68, fifth in 4:56.38 and sixth in 4:59.88 and the 4×800 team was second in 10:45.82.

Makayla Arbogast placed fourth in the shot at 23-11 and ninth in the discus at 63-7.5, and Maura Aurand was seventh in the javelin at 59-10 and 11th in the discus at 57-5.5 and Maddie Bonsall eighth in the 100 in 14.10 and 14th in the 200 in 30.74.

Carly Faulhaber took second in the 200 in 28.44 and third in the 100 in 13.12, with Bella Knepp fourth in the 800 in 2:46.20, with Viola Murphy fifth in the 300 hurdles in 1:09.37 and 22nd in the 200 in 32.89, with Emery Peters in ninth in the 200 in 29.44 and Audrey Resseguie 15th in the 200 in 30.75.

Kylie Shaffer ran fourth in the 300 hurdles in 1:01.08 and 20th in the 200 in 32.13, while Analeena Treaster was third in the 400 in 1:08.93 and Nittany Weaver 26th in the 200 in 33.97. Leigha Wenger got second in the discus at 83-10.5, second in the shot at 27-2.5 and fourth in the javelin at 93-1.5, while Emma Williams placed third in the 300 hurdles in 54.42 and 11th in the 200 in 30.00.

Jasmine Williams picked up a trio of thirds with an 81-9.5 in the discus, 97-2 in the javelin and 25-6 in the shot, with Caedence Wolfe seventh in the discus at 63-11 and Leah Zimmerman fourth in the 400 in 1:09.21.

Midd-West hosts Danville and East Juniata on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Midd-West stampeded by Shikellamy

SUNBURY - The Mustangs trailed 4-0 before scoring their lone run in the fourth inning during an 11-1 non-league loss to host Shikellamy on Saturday.

The Mustangs (1-1) mustered three hits in the contest by Briahna Keister, Cali Sauer and Samantha Leitch. Sauer also accounted for Midd-West's only run. Losing pitcher Kylie Mitch, allowed seven earned runs on nine hits, striking out five and walking six in 2 ⅓ innings.

Shikellamy let Gweneth Wiest and Sydney Sinko run wild as Wiest scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Sinko scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Ella Oakes also went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs and one triple for the Braves.

The Mustangs host Central Columbia on Tuesday.
