Wolfley, Umstead, Eagles fall on Senior Day

By BY GREG WILLIAMS 3 min read

HUNTINGDON -- There weren't any titles at stake. There wasn't even a season-ending victory, but the Juniata College Eagles had plenty to celebrate as they honored the college careers of 11 upperclassmen on Senior Day.

Among those seniors were Midd-West High School standouts Hunter Wolfley and Ben Umstead. Wolfley carried the ball 23 times for 97 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for minus 1 yard and Umstead added three assisted tackles in a 56-22 loss to Catholic University Saturday at Knox Stadium.

The Eagles ended the season at 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the Landmark Conference.

Sophomore Makih Hunt (Juniata High School/Port Royal) had one reception for five yards and junior Carter Sauer kicked a 39-yard field goal and his only PAT attempt along with averaging 38.5 yards on a pair of kickoffs.

Catholic (5-5, 3-3) grabbed a 14-6 lead in the opening quarter as the Cardinals sandwiched a pair of scores around a 5-yard run by Juniata's Ivan Foreman. Catholic extended that margin to 42-9 at the half as the Eagles only musted a field goal by Sauer in the second quarter.

Trailing 56-15 in the fourth, Wolfley found the endzone with a 20-yard TD run with 1:35 to play to set the final. Sauer added the PAT.

Juniata quarterback Calvin German, also a senior, finished 26 of 43 for 247 yards and one TD.

LOCK HAVEN 21, GANNON 13

ERIE -- Lock Haven closed out the season with a 21-13 road victory against Gannon at McConnell Family Stadium on Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup. The Bald Eagles (5-6, 3-4 PSAC) have put together back-to-back five-win campaigns.

Lock Haven quarterback Jackson Ostrowsky ended his record-breaking season by throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns with a 25-of-43 performance. Bald Eagles running back Damir Green added 101 yards on 15 carries and 1 TD. Record-breaking wideout T'iar Young hauled nine catches for 112 yards, including a TD catch late in the first half that put Lock Haven up 14-10 at halftime.

After a field goal by Bryson Costa brought Gannon with a point, Green's 9-yard run in the fourth quarter set the final.

Lock Haven's defense helped secure the win by picking off four passes, with Darryl Pollard grabbing a pair. The Bald Eagles finished with 13 interceptions this season, which ranked third in the PSAC. Quarterback Jayden Whitaker led the Golden Knights (3-7, 3-3) with 308 passing yards, while receiver Donell Mason caught seven balls for 120 yards.

SLIPPERY ROCK 27, BLOOMSBURG 7

SLIPPERY ROCK -- Bloomsburg's Owen Anderson caught a 37-yard touchdown catch from KJ Riley in the first quarter but it was the only highlight for Bloomsburg in the Huskies' season-ending 27-7 loss to Slippery Rock in PSAC crossover action at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Saturday.

While the TD pass knotted the game at 7-7, the Rock (9-1, PSAC 5-1) responded with a 25-yard field goal by Mason Yohn and 2-yard TD run by Idris Lawrence to take a 17-7 halftime lead.

A 40-yard field goal by Yohn and 1-yard run by Brayden Long in the third quarter closed out the scoring.

Riley completed 9-of-21 passes for 143 and 1 TD for the Huskies (6-5, 4-3). He also threw four interceptions and was Bloomsburg's leading rusher with 25 yards.
