Seals squeak by Huskies, 1-0

LEWISTOWN -- Mifflin County suffered its 11th defeat of the field hockey season as the Huskies lost to Selinsgrove Thursday, 1-0. But the Huskies battled throughout the contest.
"They played with heart and extreme intensity. It was a very equal game with Selinsgrove having five shots on goal and three penalty corners. Mifflin County had three shots on goal and four penalty corners," Huskies coach Brittany Wilcox said.
Taylor Fry scored the lone goal in the game for the Seals (8-5).
The JV Huskies tied Selinsgrove, 2-2. Regan Kenepp scored after an assist by Adalyn Amspacker. Khloe Stitt had the other Husky goal.
"They are a tough and consistent team. They have skill and are very technical but if we play the way I know we can, we will absolutely be able to compete," Wilcox said about the Seals.
The coach added that she believes the Huskies have improved in 2024.
"I think as a whole we have really grown. I've seen almost every player from varsity to JV improve throughout the season. A few young players that I have been really impressed with this year are Jayda Kanagy, Bree Fultz, Allison Renninger, Brynn Rowe and Aubree Dobson," Wilcox noted.
After a slow start to the season, the Huskies have kept it close in their past three games. They beat Mifflinburg last Saturday, 2-0, and only lost to Palmyra and the Seals by one goal each (2-1 to the Cougars and 1-0 the Seals).
"I think we struggled with consistency and confidence in the beginning of the season. However, I feel like I've seen more intensity and heart in our last three games than all the previous games combined. I'm hoping to continue that kind of play for the rest of the season," Wilcox added.
The Huskies (2-11) travel to State College on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
