EJ spikers edged by Danville

DANVILLE -- The East Juniata Tigers dropped a tough five-set decision to Danville open its volleyball season in non-league action on Saturday.

The Tigers grabbed the opening game, 25-23, but saw Danville win the second game, 25-20.

East Juniata rebounded to take a 2-1 lead in the match with a game-three victory, 26-24.

Danville answered by winning games four and five, 25-21 and 15-6, to defeat the Tigers.

Libby Hoffman led East Juniata with 23 digs and 9 kills in the contest, while Shana Burd added 11 digs and 11 service points.

Additionally, Kennedy Seigler-Lewis notched 12 digs and 12 assists, while Addi Dimm turned in 14 digs and 5 kills.

East Juniata hosts Southern Huntingdon in non-league action today.

SELINSGROVE -- The East Juniata boys soccer team dropped a pair of decisions at the Selinsgrove Tournament on Saturday. The Tigers fell to host Selinsgrove by a 3-1 count. Wrett Smith scored the lone goal for East Juniata, off an assist from Sam Kopacki.

Goalie Kelton Bonnell made 11 saves for the Tigers.

In the second game, Crestwood topped the Tigers 3-1. Smith netted an unassisted goal, while Bonnell had 14 stops.

East Juniata hosts Millersburg in its Tri-Valley League opener today.
