Sprint Car Speedweek set to start tonight

MECHANICSBURG -- The 34th edition of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek kicks off tonight at Williams Grove Speedway.

This year's Speedweek will have more money available for the drivers than ever before. All 10 events pay at least $10,000 to win. The series champion earns $6,000 out of a $30,000 point fund.

The Grove opener pays $10,000 to win. The 358 sprints join the Speedweek program.

The series moves to Lincoln Speedway Saturday night for the 25th Annual Kevin Gobrecht Memorial paying $25,000 to win. Anthony Macri won last year.

The first weekend of Speedweek concludes at BAPS Motor Speedway for a $10,000 to win feature. Macri also won BAPS last year en route to his first series championship.

Its back to Lincoln Monday for a $10,000 to win show. Brent Marks won last year.

Grandview Speedway, Bechtelsville, hosts Speedweek on Tuesday for the Hodnett Cup named after five-time Speedweek Champion Greg Hodnett, who won three Speedweek races at the track. Invaders have won the last six Grandview Speedweek races, however. Kyle Larson has four wins, including 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021. Christopher Bell won in 2019 and Rico Abreu in 2022. It was rained out last year. The feature pays $10,000 to win.

Port Royal Speedway's first Speedweek race is Wednesday, July 3 and $10,000 to win. The United Racing Club 360 sprint cars are also on the program.

The series goes south to Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway for Thursday and another $10,000 to win. Brent Marks won last year and 2022. Although just south of the Mason-Dixon Line, Hagerstown has hosted 19 Speedweek races with Lance Dewease winning six of them.

The Grove hosts the $20,000 to win Mitch Smith Memorial on Friday, July 5. Marks won the last two.

Port Royal's second race is the Greg Hodnett Classic on Saturday, July 6. The late models join the Speedweek program.

Port Royal Speedway has completed 31 Speedweek races with the first being won by Jeff Shepard in 1998. Keith Kauffman, Greg Hodnett and Lucas Wolfe each have won four Speedweek races at Port Royal. Lance Dewease has three. Kyle Larson, Brent Marks and Anthony Marci each have two. Marci and Larson split the 2020 races. Larson won the only race in 2021.

Marks swept the races in 2022 and Macri won the only race last season. Shepard, Don Kreitz Jr., Mark Smith, Todd Shaffer, Fred Rahmer, Cody Darrah, Justin Henderson, Tyler Walker, Blane Heimbach and Stevie Smith each have a single Port Royal Speedweek win to their credit.

The series concludes Sunday, July 7, at Selinsgrove Speedway. Both Port Royal and Selinsgrove were rained out last year. Marks won the Greg Hodnett Classic in 2022, and Danny Dietrich won at Selinsgrove in 2022. Devon Borden won the Hodnett Classic last season, but it wasn't part of Speedweek.

Anthony Macri won the Speedweek championship last season. Brent Marks won in 2022. Danny Dietrich's second Speedweek title came in 2021. Before Kyle Larson was a NASCAR champion, he was a Speedweek champion in 2020. Fred Rahmer owns the most Speedweek championships with 13.

Lance Dewease owns the most Speedweek victories with 31 followed by Fred Rahmer with 30 and Greg Hodnett with 26. Danny Dietrich has 12, Stevie Smith and Brent Marks have 11 and Kyle Larson has 10. A total of 48 different drivers have at least one Speedweek win. A total of 237 races have been held at 12 different tracks.
