By Ray Wilde 3 min read

MILROY -- For the Milroy Babe Ruth team this has been a long year. There haven’t been very many happy memories.

But, on Monday night Milroy was all smiles after their game with McVeytown. Milroy stunned second-place McVeytown, 8-7. Meanwhile in Lewistown, Burnham (16-2) beat Strodes MIlls, 21-1, in five innings. The win for Burnham coupled with McVeytown's loss gives Burnham at least a tie for the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League title.

Today, Burnham has the day off, but McVeytown hosts Strodes Mills and Milroy travels to Beaver Springs. If both McVeytown (13-4) and Springs (12-4) would lose, Burnham would win the title. Burnham's next game is Wednesday at Beaver Springs.

Milroy scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 7-7 tie. With one out, Chase Krepps walked and advanced to second and third on two wild pitches. After Thad Gerwick hit a ball to center field for the second out of the inning, Jaren Kenny drove a ball to left-center that scored Krepps. Kenny never made it to third base as he was thrown out trying to get a triple.

In the top of the seventh, McVeytown got two men on with two outs on walks, but Tyler Williams picked up a strikeout to clinch the victory for Milroy.

Blaze Shreffler started for Milroy and he pitched the first three innings. Michael Wilson pitched the next three innings and got the win. Williams got the save.

McVeytown jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning, but the game was tied 4-4 after two innings.

Milroy scored four times in the second inning and added three more runs in the fourth. Shreffler had a two-run double in the second and Karl Shirey and Gerwick added RBI base hits.

In the fourth Gerwick had another RBI single and Milroy was aided by the McVeytown defense that came up with a two-run error.

Shirey, Gerwick and Kenny each had two hits as Milroy finished with seven.

McVeytown had seven hits with Carson Cherry leading the way with three. Cherry drove in four of the seven McVeytown runs. Nazae Traxler also was a multiple hitter with two. Trayven Shaffer had an RBI double in the third inning.

BURNHAM 21, STRODES MILLS 1

LEWISTOWN -- Burnham pounded out 12 hits as it beat Strodes Mills, 21-1, in five innings. The game was stopped due to the 10-run rule.
