Dewease continues strong showing at Port Royal

By Todd Heintzelman 4 min read

PORT ROYAL - After a successful 7.5-year run in the Kreitz Racing 69K,

Lance Dewease and the team parted ways about this time last season.

Dewease won for Nick Macri in the Macri Motorsports 39M during the

second-half of 2023. At the end of the season, Dewease and Barry

Shearer teamed up.

Dewease, of Fayetteville, got back to Port Royal Speedway victory lane

in the Shearer No. 12 last Saturday. It was his 123rd career win at

the track, but first for the Shearer Family. They've been racing more

than planned to try and get faster. The plan seems to be working.

Dewease's first career Port Royal win came on April 2, 1988 in his own

No. 2D. He has Port Royal wins for Bob Weikert, Walter Dyer, Joe Harz,

Al Hamilton, Pete Postupak, Donny Owens, Kreitz, and now Shearer.

The Hall of Famer turns 59 on October 6th. He's a member of the

National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa. He was inducted

in 2018.

His 123 Port Royal wins actually rank second all-time to "The Man from

Mifflintown" Keith Kauffman's 129. Todd Shaffer is third with 94

followed by Lynn Paxton (63), and Smokey Snellbaker (55).

Dewease does lead the all-time win list at Williams Grove Speedway

with 115. He added to that a little earlier this season in the No. 12.

Dewease's son, Cole, has been racing micro sprints for a few years now.

It was a really tough night for the sprint car point leaders. Port

Royal Mayor Dylan Cisney went into the night as the point leader, but

wasn't able to start the feature. Chase Dietz and Logan Wagner were

involved in an early-race wreck. Dietz's team made repairs and he

returned and salvaged a 10th place finish. That was enough to give him

the point lead. Former two-time track champion Mike Wagner made up a

lot of ground with his fifth place finish. He's now tied with his son

for second place (-50).

Rick Eckert maintained his late model point lead with a top 10 finish

during Speedweek. Ryan Zook maintained his points lead in the limited

late models, but Trent Brenneman is only 10 points behind now and

Devin Hart is 15 behind.

The stock car divisions have the night off this Saturday as the USAC

National Sprint cars and the USAC Silver Crown cars make their annual

stop for Eastern Storm. Port Royal's 410 sprints are also on the

program.

York's Chase Dietz took over the point lead with the Zemco car last

Saturday. Look for Dietz to pull double-duty in the sprint car and

Silver Crown car Saturday night. Dietz turned heads last year when he

debuted in the Silver Crown division and finished second.

The late models and 305 sprint cars return on Saturday, June 22,

joining the 410 sprints. This year's Blue Collar Classic for the 305's

will be held on the 29th, along with the limited late models.

The 34th edition of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek kicks off

Friday, June 28, at Williams Grove Speedway. All features pay at least

$10,000 to win this season.

The series moves to Lincoln Speedway on June 29 for the Kevin Gobrecht

Memorial, which pays $25,000 to win this year. The first weekend of

Speedweek concludes at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday, June 30.

The series moves back to Lincoln Speedway on Monday, July 1, and then

to Grandview Speedway on Tuesday. Port Royal's first date for

Speedweek is Wednesday, July 3. The series heads to Hagerstown

Speedway on July 4. Williams Grove presents the Mitch Smith Memorial

paying $20,000 to win on Friday, July 5. Port Royal has the Greg

Hodnett Classic on July 6, and the series concludes Sunday, July 7, at

the Selinsgrove Speedway. More money than ever is on the line for the

teams this season.

Dillsburg's Anthony Macri won the Speedweek title last season. Brent

Marks won in 2022, Danny Dietrich in 2021, and before he was a NASCAR

Champion, Kyle Larson was a Speedweek Champion in 2020. Steve Smith

won the first Speedweek in 1991. Dewease has the most Speedweek wins

with 31. Fred Rahmer has the most championships with 13.

Starting at /week.
