9 Striders heading to Region 2

MILLERSVILLE -- The Juniata Valley Striders will send nine qualifiers to the Region 2 Meet in two weeks at Millersville University after a strong outing on Saturday at the Mid-Atlantic AAU Meet.

Also held at Millersville, the day started out slowly with none of the Striders' distance runners participating some with top 10 seeds being lost.

The Striders' fortunes changed once their nationally-ranked throwers took the field.

Juniata Valley coach Ron Sprecher said, "Mid-Atlantic is powerful in Region 2 and nationally with many Olympic Champions coming out of the Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey Association. Potomac Valley (Baltimore and Washington) were also entered into the meet when they were not able to conduct their Association Championship increasing the quality of the meet."

Easton Herb qualified for the Region 2 meet in three events. Herb finished second in the 600-gram javelin with a throw of 81-9; eighth in the discus with a mark of 20.62 meters; and eighth in the shot put with a personal record of 23.05.50.

Logan McKnight qualified in a pair of events after placing third in the 600-gram javelin with a 97-9 in his age group and eighth in the discus with a 15.01-meter throw.

On the track, Jackson Druckenmiller ran a 1:15:80 in the 400, which was a personal record and placed him 15th. In the 1500, Cohan Bush also qualified with a 5:44.41, which placed seventh.

In the turbo javelin, Everett Herb threw a 61-2 to finish third and earn another qualifier. In the long jump, the Striders' Zaine Napikowski hit 2.70 meters, which was good for 11th and landed a qualifier.

Also competing were Parker Walters, who ran a 1.25.19 to finish 24th in the 400. Everett Herb placed 30th in the 100 in 17.93 and Jackson Druckenmiller was 19th at 16.75. Napikowski ended up 28th in the 100 in 18.25.

In the 200, Druckenmiller placed 23rd in 34.31 with Napikowski 33rd in 37.68.

With age groups 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 represented it was an outstanding performance by the Striders.
