PORT ROYAL -- It was a landslide victory for Port Royal Mayor Dylan Cisney in the sprint car feature Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway.
"We got it done tonight, so hopefully we can keep the momentum rolling," said Cisney, who is also the mayor of Port Royal Borough. "I'm not the best wall-banger like some of these other young guys, but we had a good car and held on, and it was good through traffic, I'm happy it worked out."
AJ Flick grabbed the lead over Cisney and Steve Buckwalter to start the 25-lap feature. They blasted around the top over the opening laps. Flick made contact with a lapped car and spun into the backstretch wall with seven laps completed ending his bid for a win.
This handed the lead to Cisney and he went unchallenged from there.
"I was happy to let him take off on the start," Cisney said. "I've done this long enough. I absolutely despise being out front leading races because you never know what your pace is like or if you're slowing up too much in traffic. You're always better to be second than the leader."
They started lapping cars, but Buckwalter couldn't close as Cisney's car worked well through traffic.
"My car stayed straight through traffic and dirty air," Cisney said. "We've been working on a lot of things this season so far. A lot of things changed with our team during the winter. We lost a lot of important people that were always here with us the last decade. I kind of reverted back to being crew chief and driver. Sometimes, that's a mental head game, but it all worked out tonight."
His ninth career speedway win was worth $5,000.
"I have to thank Scott Cowman," Cisney said. "He's keeping my career alive and letting me do what I love to do. I'm glad we got him another checkered flag here in Pennsylvania. I'm looking forward to some trips to Wisconsin to some of his tracks this year."
"I want to dedicate this one to our good friend Sandy Kline," Cisney said. "I saw her walking around tonight. Jim Kline was a great man. They were very instrumental in the beginning of my career. I was really happy to see her here again tonight. This one's for her."
Buckwalter finished second. Mike Walter II won the three-car battle for the final podium spot over Justin Whittall and 11th starter Lance Dewease.
Jeff Halligan finished sixth taking the point lead by five over Cisney. Logan Wagner, Mark Smith, Austin Bishop and Chase Dietz rounded out the top 10.
Heat races for the 27 cars were won by Cisney, Walter and Flick. Devin Adams won the consolation.
This Saturday is the $15,000 to win Keith Kauffman Classic for the sprint cars.
Gregg Satterlee, of Indiana, Pa., dominated the 25-lap late model feature earning $4,000 for his 19th career speedway win.
"When I had a clean race track in front of me, I could maneuver and dictate where I wanted to be on the race track," he said. "As the race went on and I got more laps on my tires, I was slowing down a lot and struggling to get enough speed up to pass the lapped cars. I thought Eckert had to be getting close because some of my corners weren't too pretty at the end. We held on for a good win."
The first yellow flew with nine laps completed. Satterlee controlled the restart as 2023 track champion Rick Eckert raced into second. They started lapping slower cars over the final 10 laps. This allowed Eckert to close on the leader, but not close enough to make a move for the lead. Trevor Feathers, Matt Cosner and Kyle Lee completed the top five. Dillan Stake, Ross Robinson, Dylan Yoder, Jeff Rine and Gene Knaub rounded out the top 10.
Heat races for the 38 late models were won by Satterlee, Feathers, Stake and Cosner.
Satterlee set a quick time at 18.547.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series invades Port Royal Sunday for a $10,000 to win feature.
Nick Sweigart dominated the 20-lap feature for the 305 sprint cars. Ken Duke Jr. led the opening laps before sixth starting Sweigart passed him entering turn one. He'd go on to score his sixth career speedway win. Logan Spahr passed Duke on the final lap for second. Kruz Kepner and Mike Melair completed the top five. Doug Dodson, Austin Reed, Dustin Young, Seth Schnoke and Zach Rhodes rounded out the top 10.
Heat races for the 40 cars were won by Reed, Sweigart, Spahr and Melair.
