CHAMBERSBURG -- The Mifflin County Huskies opened the outdoor track and field season with some strong performances at the non-scoring Tim Cook Invitational in Chambersburg on Saturday.

Husky head coach Tamara Sechler has a lot of young and new faces this spring and she hoped the non-scoring meet would give them a chance to try out their events in a relaxed competition.

"Our veteran athletes use this meet as a stepping stone to achieving their season goals," Sechler said. "Quite a few were able to set that standard and take top honors at the same time. Two of our athletes, Myka Simmons and Carter Smith, were meet champions."

Coming off a state title during the indoor season, Smith won the 1,600-meter run in 4:27.32.

Simmons took top honors in the 200 dash in 22.31 and finished second in the 100 at 11.14.

Other highlights included: Travis Renninger, seventh place in the shot put at 40-11; Tylor Druckemiller, fifth in the 1,600 at 4:44.84; Reese Cubbison, third in the 800 at 2:08.49; and Wyatt Kauffman, seventh in the 800 at 2:13.45.

In the relays, the boys 4×400 relay of Isaac Parks-Hill, Druckemiller, Kauffman and Smith were second in 3:42.27; and the girls 4×400 relay of Danielle Warfel, Alleigh Caruso, Adalyn Ross and Liberty Cook were seventh in 4:45.32.
