Spartans edge Huskies, 51-50

HERSHEY -- Milton Hershey girls basketball topped Mifflin County on Monday, 51-50.

Mackenzie Peachey dropped a team-high 18 points for the Huskies (8-12) and Rylee Retherford tacked on 10 points.

Amelia Leister added eight MC points and Jalee Bodtorf collected six points.

For the Spartans, Tarianda Washington posted a game-high 23 points and Faith Wratto tallied nine points. Aubrie Walker-Smith had eight points.

Hershey had a 15-8 lead after the first quarter, but the Huskies recovered. Over the next two periods, MC outscored Hershey, 29-23. In the fourth and final stanza, Washington scored nine of the Spartans 13 points to give the home team the win.

In JV action, the Huskies beat Milton Hershey, 41-27. Ciara Williams had 10 MC points and Jayda Kanagy chimed in with eight points.

The Huskies host Central Mountain in their regular-season finale today at 7 p.m.

Wildcats top Tigers, 28-24

COCOLAMUS -- Greenwood clipped East Juniata in girls hoops on Monday, 28-24.

For Greenwood, Leah Ritzman scored 10 points and Sophie Myers had six points.

Makaylyn Peters had eight points to lead EJ. Cadee Becker and Landyn Cramer each had six points.

EJ (6-13) travels to Steelton-Highspire today.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Mustangs surge past Indians

MIFFLINTOWN -- Midd-West beat Juniata in boys hoops on Monday, 49-46.

For Midd-West (7-13), Noah Romig scored 24 points and Garrett Leitzel recorded eight points.

Cole Shutt and Trevor Sheaffer each had six points for the Mustangs.

Jasper Shepps posted a team-high 16 for Juniata (11-9). Isaiah Staggers added nine points. Grant Reinhold and Wyatt Stoner each had eight points.

The Mustangs outscored Juniata in the first period, 21-10. Midd-West drilled five threes in the opening frame. Juniata held Midd-West to 28 points total during the last three quarters.

Midd-West visits Mifflin County today. Juniata hosts Meadowbrook Christian on Thursday.

-The Mustangs snap an 11-game losing streak.

Souders joins Holy Family

Mifflin County baseball player Farrell Souders has committed to play D2 baseball for Holy Family University, located in Philadelphia.

Souders will graduate this spring and continue his education at Holy Family where he will study pre-med health science.

The switch-hitter is known as a versatile player, who brings high energy and is hardworking.

Souders has a few multi-hit games, including one against Altoona and Bellefonte last season.
