Indians edge Wildcats in 3OTs

MIFFLINTOWN -- Juniata boys basketball hosted Greenwood on Thursday night in a battle on the court. Tied at the end of the fourth quarter 51-51 the teams would enter three overtime periods when Juniata eventually took the 62-58 win over the Wildcats.
In the first quarter Juniata’s Grant Reinhold, who lit up the scoreboard during the game, scored eight points in field goals and an additional free throw point. Wyatt Stoner and Damien Vance each added two points for the Indians as well.
For the Wildcats, both Kyle Corkle and Braden Sarver each hit a three and John Taylor hit a two-point field goal and added three points in free throws.
During the second quarter, the Wildcats exploded scoring twenty points in one quarter. Taylor added four more in field goals and Sarver put up two more in free throws. Noah Welles added an additional point from a free throw. Ben Brinser hit a three as well as two additional two-pointers, and a free throw. Bronson Moyer got on the board, adding five points in field goals.
The Indians had a less successful second quarter, only adding ten points as Vance and Reinhart each added two points, and Jasper Shepps added six points after making three baskets.
Coming into the half the Indians were down by eight points and came out ready to play. Shepps and Reinhart each added a two pointer plus a free throw. Stoner put up four points in baskets, and Vance added an additional two from a field goal. Ricky Guante got on the board after sinking a three and then throwing up an additional two points.
For the Wildcats third quarter, Corkle and Brinser each sank a three. Taylor, Sarver, Moyer and Brodie Woodard each landed a two point field goal.
In the fourth quarter, the Indians defense put a stop to the Wildcats. Taylor and Woodward each added two points, and Sarver put one up from a free throw.
The Indians were able to tie the game after Shepps made five points in free throws, Reinhart added another two from a basket as well as Guante. Isaiah Staggers got his points on the board with two free throws.
Going into overtime it was 51-51, Brinser scored a basket for the Wildcats putting them in the lead. Taylor then added an additional point from a free throw.
The Indians responded with a three-pointer made by Guante and it put the teams into double overtime, 54-54.
In the second overtime Reinhart was the sole Indian to score, adding two points to the board.
The Wildcats also had only one lone scorer for second overtime as Corkle put up two points, tying the game once again at 56-56.
Indians' senior Shepps was putting it all in the court in triple overtime after Brinser put up two points for the Wildcats from free throws. Shepps sank two free throws, tying the game once again. He then landed a basket adding an additional two points, but he wasn't done there. Shepps put the nail in the coffin with two more free throw points and secured the triple-overtime game win for the Indians.
"Us coaches, we know each other, we're friends, we love to compete against each other, and the kids know each other and they like to compete against each other. And yeah, it was a good night for us. And you know, they came up short. But you know, I think we played good defense on them."
Juniata faces off against Penns Valley on Saturday.
